So i couldnt contain myself and i opened a couple tins of flakes i had purchased at Iwan Ries so i could see what it looked like and get the tin note. I did this knowing that i wouldnt be able to smoke through the tin within a month or so. what do i do with the flakes? can i put back in the tin and cellar? or do i need to put in jars? if i put in jars do i need to put them in boiling water to get the air out? i plan on slowly going through these tins as i wont be opening more tins, im just curious as what to do so i dont ruin anything. thanks guys.

so just throwing into a jar will do the job of sealing it? if its too moist for my liking should i maybe leave it in the tin until its how i like then jar it?

I myself would put it in as is. That's how I do it and have had no problems. Some have been jarred for a few years and are in perfect condition.

I have some University Flake that has been sitting around (LOL, Irish Flake jumped in and kicked it's ass into the corner!) in the tin for about 2 months now and that seems to have suffered no il-effects so far...

hawke, go to walmart, grab a tupperware like plastic container with a good seal, and throw them in there. I keep open tins like that for months, and they don't dry out. The have a 4 pack I believe of 4 different sizes for like 5 bucks, they work great.

I use jars and vacuum sealed bags. Both work for keeping tobacco fresh for longer periods. I'm max'ed out for space now. I've also cut back on the number of bowls a day to. That means I need an effective way to preserve my tobacco. :puffy:

I keep my open tins in the acrylic plastic containers from walmart, and haven't had any dry out yet.. Just don't mix and match with your blends...

Hawk:
You can pick up a case of Ball jars - the smaller ones - at Wal-Mart for 9.95. These are perfect for a tin of tobacco. If your weed arrives moist I can almost guarantee it'll still be moist when you open the jar 60 to 90 days later.
I live in the Midwest and, while it was hotter than the hubs of hell this past summer, my tobacco is cellared in a very cool basement. I only started building a cache of tobacco a year ago but I'm impressed with everything I've seen so far. YMMV, of course.

I like jars with bale tops, as long as they have a good seal. If you are gonna store it for awhile (months) before trying the blend again, then canning jars work really well. I have some 3 year old Dunhill 965 stored that way.

i would just jar it but not air seal if you plan on smoking them, the jar will hold a lot of its natural content normally.

Hawke, the large container holds around 8 or so tins, the next size down about 6 and the 2 small ones 4 each. That makes about 22 tins stored for 5 bucks. I have open tins in there for over 4 months and none have dried out.
