I tried the C&D dark fired and didn’t really care for it. May just use it for mixing. I’m bummed that Old Dark Fired and Amphora KY are going by the wayside.

C&D DFK is a blending component. It's, ah, an acquired taste on its own. It's, uh, challenging on its own (and by challenging, I mean in the same way fish sauce would be challenging on its own). Think of it as condimental tobacco like straight latakia and straight perique, which also aren't great on their own.

Mac Baren ODF is a hot pressed flake with Dark Fired Kentucky as a component, not the entire blend.

From C&D, Dreams of Kadath, and, as others have mentioned, GLP Jackknife Plug are good bets. The Toscano limited edition Maestro Puccini is another good choice.
