Smoking mixture now for the first time in a couple of years and getting a slight burn on the roof of my mouth, nothing on the tongue though.

Get a similar reaction with Granger also.

I'm hoping I'll adjust to both over time, I'm going to air it out a few times and see if that makes any difference.

@MCJ love your avatar, great looking k9Th

Hi Folks!

Has anyone else noticed that Mac Baren's Mixture (Scottish Blend) has a terrific bite to it? I've smoked it damp, dry and in between. It leaves my tongue raw. Now, in the same sitting, I can smoke Mac Baren's Golden Extra (Ready Rubbed) and Smoker's Pride Cherry Cavendish with complete delight. So I don't think it's a problem of steam or puffing too hard and fast. How has your mileage been with Mixture?
That os the ONLY blend that feels like an ice pick through my tongue if I puff it too fast. It taught me to slow down.

I took a 20 year hiatus as a pipe smoker and this is one of the blends that sat untouched during this time. I will say a few decades really smoothes this tobacco out and it is amazing!

I recently bought a pound, smoked it, burned the crap out of my tongue.

As I've delved further into Mac Baren, I now know you have to sip them when they're fresh, but still might wait a couple years to let the fresh stuff get some time on the shelf and meld a bit.

@gastro Why the 20 year break? And what occasioned the return? (I ask cuz I have a similar pattern.)
I quit working at a tobacco shop and got a "real job", life was too fast paced for pipes and cigars.

Picked it up again with some friends a few years back and jumped back in feet first. Probably a little too deep. I keep searching for more cellar space in my office.
