Mac Baren - "St. Bruno" Flake

Wow...I've never heard of a St. Bruno plug either. I too would have loved to try that one, especially if it was a more intense flavour than the flake which I find to be a little wishy washy.

I am told that St. Bruno changed manufacturers sometime in 2014-2015, and that the new version is a bit less exciting than the old. Still, what a great formulation.
As far as American OTCs go, some are favorites. Carter Hall is a great sweet but otherwise straight down the middle smoke, and Prince Albert is always fun. They just need to make high Nicotine versions.

I used to arrange to bring it into the US for people on this forum until one bad actor who is no long a member stiffed me for quite a lot of the stuff! I had the opportunity to try the US re-release last year at the Chicago Pipe Show and maybe its me but the topping just didn't quite taste and smell as I remember it.

The US release product isn't as pungent as the stuff you got for me from Blighty. MacBaren says it's the same, and maybe it's a batch to batch thing, but it lacks the level of vinegar. It's not the same. Maybe they should have stuck with the plastic containers instead of going to tins.

The sauce is milder, but MacBaren's has been making St Bruno for the past decade or so. Maybe they changed some suppliers for the sauce in 2015. Still love the stuff, just not as much.
