This was the very first pipe tobacco I ever tried. Back then I thought it was ok but didn't think too much about. It didn't impress much at the time so I jarred it up and proceeded to go on a TAD buying craze, trying just about everything that sounded good. I revisited it a couple times early on and still thought it decent at best.

Fast forward a year and a half later and I gave it another shot today. I don't know if its from a little extra aging or my palate being more developed, but I was actually very impressed this time. Its not how I remember it. Its actually really good! Im picking out alot more flavors than I did before. I'm gonna have to try this with some other blends I haven't had in a while.

I’m a year and a half into my journey, and right now this is my favourite blend. Mild, but interesting. Tobacco flavour, but enough extra sweetness to make it a treat. It rewards a slow cadence, which also makes it good practice for those of us new.

I would have liked this blend (thanks to interesting ,mild varying taste profile)but unfortunately it did not agree with my tongue, for instance Mc Baren navy Flake was definitely more forgiving and did not seem to bite in a degree as Scottish Blend did every time i I tried it, granted it was relatively fresh batch perhaps with 2 year of age, probably Mc Barens Mixture flake is now a blend what I may need to try,,never had it before

The MB Scottish Mixture is an evergreen, I smoked a lot in the early 70s. (Then switched to Plumcake and Dark Twist). If you prefer flake tobacco you can also get (as @hawky454 suggests) the same blend named MB Mixture Flake Flake Cut.

I've never gotten the range on the Mac Baren blends I've tried, but this thread makes me wish I had this blend collecting dust with my other discontinued blends.

I haven’t tried it yet. Bought it at the Columbus pipe show in 2007, just found it in my cellar late this summer.

If you’d excuse my boosterism, I know one thing you would appreciate about it. It has been available for some seventy years in pouches, tins, and bulk all across europe and North America at a non-premium price, and seems to be inexhaustible in supply.

I like this blend as well but have always wondered about it being categorized as an "aromatic." There is additional sweetness, but no discernible added flavoring (at least to me, or by the descriptions I've seen). There are plenty of other blends with a MUCH more pronounced non-tobacco flavor which but are not seen as an aromatic. E.g. Velvet, et al.

Most people tend to agree with you but personally I pick up on some big favor from the top dressing. This is not a bad thing in my opinion, it’s just the right amount of topping and it’s a very complex sauce at that. Totally one of a kind, it’s sweet and sour and somewhat floral. I love it!
