Any other fans of this stuff?

I bought some a couple of months ago because I had been enjoying MB blends a bit and though maybe I’d give it a go.

Now I’m smoking it nearly every day. Has the perfect amount of Kentucky, and a great overall flavor. Not a heavy smoke, but certainly has some flavor.

There is a reason that Mac Baren Mixture (Scottish Blend) has been around as long as it has. l always have some in rotation.
I enjoy Mac Baren Scottish Blend, but was surprised to learn other Scottish blends have Latakia (which I tend to avoid).

"Scottish blend" is a marketing term. Nothing more. These terms are used differently by different blenders. I believe that the term came to be applied to certain latakia blends with some unflavored black cavendish added because Rattray's (which was originally a Scottish firm) had some blends using those ingredients.

The late Joe Harb told of being in Scotland years ago, visiting tobacconists, and asking them to sell him 25 gms or so of what they considered their most Scottish blends. The result was invariably more like Mac B Mixture than anything else.

Funny to come across this thread. Ed Burak sold a ton of Mac Baren Mixture as "Scottish Blend" when Connoisseur Pipe Shop was in business. I just ordered a few more pounds of Mac Baren from a shop that had a sale on it several weeks ago. I now have about 30 pounds of it. Much of it has been blended with Perique, and it really makes it a little smoother.

It was a favorite of mine for about 20 years, and then I went off it, very odd. I still enjoy it sometimes, but the apricot flavoring started to annoy me and the DFK (Original Mac Baren Cavendish) started tasting ashy. I could be that it doesn't age well, especially the DFK, because I'm currently working on a batch made in July 2014. I should try a new batch and compare.

I liked very much this blend. Very tasty, and you can find it very easy, and at reasonably price.

Anyone knows some blends, similar to Mac Baren Scottish Mixture?

So much to like about this blend - and, while I can't say they are similar, per se, I would recommend all of the Mac Baren classics ...each blend, to me, is perfect in their own, unique way.

I have tried this blend over and over and over. I want to like it but, MAN do I HATE this stuff. Never fails to bite the daylights out of my tongue! Last time I tried it, I had to stop half way through.
Never had problem with tongue bite with this blend. I used 9mm filter (helps little), i was drying tobacco very well, and smoking slowly. And everything was fine.

I got a tin of Mac Baren Mixture with a pipe rack I bought with a gift certificate from my wife. That blend bit like a junkyard dog, but I persisted, mixing it with other blends and condiments, but it was always Mac Bite for me. I wonder if the occasional tin does that, since a lot of people love the stuff. Ordinarily, I do fine with stronger blends, just not that one. Bayou Night, Stratfordshire, Nightcap, Semois, etc., all okay.
