I just was going through my cellar and found one of the first, if not the first, jars of pipe tobacco I ever deliberately cellared. It's LBF from October of 2020. Friends, it's excellent. Compared to younger LBF, It's got more fruitiness, the Cavendish disk is more sweet, and the hay seems to weave in and out. Solid investment, I highly recommend.

Ive got some LBF from 2010 and 2012, and a bunch of LNF from 2008-2013.
Both improve from very average, to absolutely sublime....in my opinion.
Ive been smoking through some of the LNF because its not gonna get any better. And I have several pounds well over a decade old.
Maybe a giveaway is in order. :)

Around 2013 there was a guy on here that was going ape shit building his cellar up. Think he was a lawyer from Canada. Remember him talking about the LBF and how he was going deep on it. I listened to him and did the same. Smartest thing I ever did.

Same here, sitting on a pound sealed in mylar and a 16 oz. jar filled loosely to the top. Probably about one and a quarter pounds in all, which I have left alone to marinate for the requisite time, just to see what all the hubbub is about. I'm about two years or so into my wait...these are going to be the slowest three years of my life, methinks!

By the way, also doing the same with two tins of Flake Medallions, just out of principle. Got a few other VAs and VaPers I threw in mylar and forget about 'em until 2028 or so. If I haven't been kicked out of here by then, you're all doomed I'll certainly do a taste test and report the results. puffy

My experience was……it was bland and harsh fresh. At 5 years, it was just older bland and harsh. It’s been sitting on my “likely destined to the garbage” shelf for a bit now.

im kinda with you on this, i have some from November 2020 and smoked it after smoking some KBV Ravens Eye Flake (which is just stoved LBF) and I have to say I enjoy the stoved version more. Also I didn't have to wait 5 years for it to "get good" which is just ridiculous to begin with.

I think mine is from the same time period. I also have a jar of ravens eyes from the same period, but also sitting right next to the LBF.

Safe to say, it’s not my thing.

To be fair, I like LBF fresh. I didn't wait for it to get good, I intentionally overstocked it and found the prodigal jar as I was doing an inventory. I do appreciate your recommendation of the REF, thank you!

I have several lbs of LNF put aside. Most of it over 5yrs old and some approaching 8-9 years. Fresh it is okay at best, but even a few months is a vast improvement. With a few years it is a sublime smoke and will probably be my "daily" smoke at some point.
