Hi everyone.
I've been smoking a pipe, more "off" than "on" since 1969.
I still have three pipes from that era plus a Peterson's, which I bought around 30 years ago and have also recently purchased a Tsuge System pipe, though I've discovered that the filters are not available in the UK.
However, I have a problem since I've restarted smoking. The nicotine in the tobacco has become an unwelcome stimulant and I'm suffering from the effects, which never bothered me before.
If I have a pipeful, even in the morning, I have a very restless night's sleep and I feel wide awake.
I'm currently on Peterson's Early Morning Blend and even though that is supposed to be mild it's too much for me.
Can anyone recommend a quality low nicotine blend that I could get on with, preferably available in the UK?
Many thanks.

No tobacco recommendations but have you tested your sleep pattern without the pipe?

If I don't smoke my pipe I sleep like a log.
I've only recently restarted smoking. I love the contemplative side of pipe smoking and I'm keen to go through the process once again. However, a few years of not ingesting any nicotine is playing havoc with increased heartbeat and staying awake since I've started smoking again.
Unless I can find a very low nicotine based pipe tobacco then I shall be knocking it on the head.
It's true what they say, nicotine is a stimulant and when you haven't smoked for a while the effects are very much heightened.
I'd also add that it's around 25 years since I last smoked so my tolerance is very low. It's like being injected with nicotine.
Now in my mid seventies I just want some mellow pipe time with as little "kick" as possible.

Try puffing contemplatively and let the pipe go out frequently. You'll get the pleasure of smoking without huffing it all down. Suggestions to go with aromatics is a good one. Sorry that you have to struggle with this.

I don't understand..

The majority of pipe tobacco is very low in nicotine.

You shouldn't have trouble finding those.

If you're looking for the higher nicotine blends they'll be fewer and farther between.

Best thing to do is use Jiminks reviews, he always mentions the "nic hit." He's one you can trust to give an honest account.

oddly nicotine helps me sleep better.

But seriously, nicotine strength is relative. There are many on here who have breakfast comprised of a peterson pub pipe loaded with Penzance, a pound of struedel, a cop of coffee with half a cup of sugar in it, and say their morning smoke

is low nicotine.

Look for cavendish (black or gold) in the ingredients. That will be a good indicator that a blend is low nicotine. Also avoid Latakia and Perique as those can increase the nicotine content of a blend quite a bit.
