Pretty much. It’s in the Mackenzie Basin. Many of the exact spots are on private land.

Anyone know if the FX work was updated? A lot of improvements have happened in the past 20 years since I left that part of the business.

Doubtful, since George Lucas was luckily not involved.

The movies were remastered in 4K a couple years ago though, I believe.

My wife and I went to the film last night. It was really fun to see Return of the King on the big screen again. There was a total of seven of us in the theater, but all were full-blown Tolkien geeks. (Wife and me had on Tolkien-related shirts, and I have a LOTR sticker on my back window - nerdy but fun.) Had some great like-minded conversation before the film started with a lady next to us. She was there alone. Always makes me somewhat sad to see someone going to the movies alone, but I suppose some actually prefer it. I'd rather go alone than with someone who will wreck the film by talking or making gestures and being distracting, etc.

I also realized how seldom I actually go to the movies. It's just something I don't think about often, having little interest in what passes for entertainment these days. But I also realized our local theater runs showings of older films from time to time, as well as plays other events on the big screen. I'd like to get out and do some things like that from time to time. I've been stuck in a rut of work > home > sleep > repeat for a good while now.
