I can only echo what everyone else has said, but I'm glad these responses have been some measure of comfort for you.

It is sad to hear about your loss. When people like you volunteer time like you did, it makes our world a much better place to live in. Thank you.
Salted- Sorry to hear about your daughter. Hopefully she can get the help that she needs one day.

My condolences to you and his family. Supporting someone for 120 days shows how good your intentions were. There is a famous Turkish novel in which it says "if the earth spins, it spins for the sake of good people. And even though the sun goes red when it goes down, for the sake of good people it becomes bright yellow at dawn." Thanks for making this world a better place, sir.

I really don't have the words; that's a heart-breaker.
It sounds like you did everything you could as a sponsor, and he may have enjoyed four months of clarity he might not have otherwise in part due to your diligent efforts. Keep fighting the good fight. It's worth it.

Hang in there friend, and let other good people help you through this. Grieving can be a slow process, and no one can tell you how, but others will help you along.

Damn. No, as others have said (& believe me, I do know how hard it is to embrace it), not your fault. At all. Relapses just happen, & there's always the self-imposed guilt factor. It'll consume you if you let it. You were his sponsor, not his leash-holder. As hard as it is to have to suffer through, you weren't to blame. Bad things happen, & sometimes the only solution you can find that makes any sense is the part about"the wisdom to know the difference." Good luck, David. Beating yourself up is a step back in your *own* recovery. I know.

I believe you helped give your sponsee 4 months of hope that he might not have had otherwise. That is worth a lot. Strong work.

In this emotionally trying time I hope you will take good care of yourself and reach out for help should you need it.

David I feel your pain. As an AA sponsor I have had a similar situation happen. Your experience will make you stronger and will drive you to help others. You were there 24/7 and people will be there for you at this time. Be strong it's a hard path we walk.

God Bless

Andy
