When the weather hits 30° C here, I go right off smoking altogether, doesn't taste right in the heat. I'll still hit a bit of snuff for the nic, but the pipe gets heavily reduced.

What I have discovered, though, is that lacing B&H Special Virginia with some SG Celtic Talisman snuff is pretty good when it's hot. Maybe aros have their uses in these conditions?

Hilarious! as I open this tin up in scorching heat. I needed a cool refreshing reminder of the winter.

Ugh, #MeToo. My palate has crashed the last few days. No tobacco tastes good, food less affected. My intake is temporarily suspended, hopefully not like Nixon and the $ gold standard.

As it happens, I have regular vital signs checks, the last this morning. No issues with blood pressure, blood oxygen, pulse or temperature - normally, when the flavours go dead, I expect some physical evidence of illness or impending illness. But no clues. I'll just have to sit this out.

In the meanwhile, I can deep clean all of my pipes I suppose, wouldn't do any harm.

I can barely detect the nuances of tobacco in the can or jar. I hope it's not chronic. In addition, I have more memory loss, sometimes even a certain imbalance, as if I were clumsier when performing simple household tasks, such as opening a water bottle cap or going down the stairs. I'm not sure, but I think it's been more than two months without much of a sense of smell. I thought it was a mild flu, when it turned out to be COVID, which even the predictor didn't detect at the time. I'm hopeful that I'll get my sense of smell back. Sometimes I look at my wine cellar and my pipes, and I refuse to give up. I really miss smoking my tobacco; it's one of the few things I have left to enjoy in this life. Damn it.

I had Covid a couple times. The first time I lost my sense of smell. It took about three/four months in my case for it to come back. I hardly smoked a thing during that period. People don’t realize that taste is more about smell than anything else until they can’t smell. I’ll never forget noticing the smell of coffee brewing one morning at work after not having smelled much of anything for months. Be patient and hopefully it will work out.

Allergies are one thing, but basic sinus problems are another. Do you suffer from stuffy sinuses. Part of our taste is determined by smell, if our sinuses are clogged it is harder to get full advantage of a smoke. When my sinuses are bad, all tobaccos taste just about the same.
