Just a bit of a word of warning from MacQueen pipes.

1. They are hit or miss. I have 2 of them and one smokes very well and the other is just ok after I did a little customization to it.

2. They can take forever to ship one to you so I recommend getting it through a 3rd party site.

3. Get the piece as a novelty pipe and not as a smoker. I say this so if it smokes like crap(which seems to be the majorities consensus) you won't be upset LOL and you can just set it next to your LOTR book set.

pick up a CW stem from Pimo http://www.pimopipecraft.com/round.html and adapt it to a stemless bowl.

I'm way ahead of you arthur, only I am fashioning the stem myself and adapting it to a bowl i got real cheap. i recently bought a stand along with 3 pipes (1 has good draw, the second has poor draw and the third is missing the stem entirely) for 10 bucks. the third bowl is in nice shape and will make a smashing CW. i have access to the million dollar Clarkson machine shop so i think i can find a way to make my own stem. i have checked out pimo and im itching to carve my own pipe eventually

I'll take your word for it. i'm usually wary of buying anything online without going through paypal, but it's good to know that there are still some honest people out there

You have to adjust the stem to the pipe. Not all that hard with a lathe . A bit slower but doable by hand .

Do you think I could pull it off by hand? It is for the huge one I sent you the picture of.

Don't know why now . I have done the fitup with careful filing of the stem more than once. Now I chuck that puppy in the lathe and ROCK ON!!!

I've noticed alot of "freehand" pipes by various people, in which the stem is purposely not sanded flush with the shank, in many cases it looks cool. my goal is to try making a stem like that and see how it turns out, that way i don't have to worry about getting an exact fit.

You know what I'd really like? A thread that summarized and/or reviewed all of the tobacco blends that have Lord of the Rings inspired names. I just noticed pstlpkr smoking "Ruins of Isengard". I mean, how cool-sounding is that? Is it Longbottom Leaf that has been casket-aged while floating in floodwater?

My dad had a copy, and I remember reading a few pages of it when I was in my early teens, but it didn't stick. It's an interesting insight into the 1960's, where there actually was a backlash against the popularity of a book. Not just the popularity of the book, but its infiltration into other forms of art, especially music. Watch this music video of Leonary Nimoy and tell me that the whole LoTR thing wasn't worth lampooning. :)

In this day and age, there's a lot better things to subject to satire. LoTR is no longer an enfant terrible and is now the elder statesman of modern fantasy literature.

I know this is a bit off topic...but I wanted to give a book series suggestion to all you LOTR fans out there. It is called "The Sword of Truth" Series and it is written by Terry Goodkind. It is very much like the LOTR in that the series takes place in medieval times with wizards, dragons, magic and whatnot. It is also similar to the LOTR in that the author has the main characters separate and go off on their own side stories throughout all the books. If you can find a box set that sells all 11 of the books together I would jump on it as most places I've seen(amazon and barnesandnoble.com included) sell them in sets of three so you will end up buying multiple sets just to get the full series. And don't be hesitant to buy the full set all at once either thinking you might not like it, trust me, if you like LOTR even remotely you will love this series!
