I watched the LOTR trilogy this weekend and all it made me want to do was smoke my pipe, drink beer and hit something with a sword. unfortunately the last one tends to be less socially acceptable. Watching this movie again reminded me of how much i enjoyed reading the books as a kid, and of how it inspired my hobbies of writing and pipe smoking. I was also reminded of the famous "longbottom leaf", a specific "pipeweed" mentioned in the story. so i hit up google and nearly jumped out of my seat.
Apparently, "just for him" makes "pipeweed" pipe tobaccos inspired by lord of the rings. I immediately bought all four of them, and since shipping was alot compared to this sampler, i also picked up some Grey Havens by McClellands.
I am now vibrating with anticipation of their arrival.

Cool. I look forward to reading your review of them. I also love LOTR and re-watch the films a few times a year (with pipe going of course).
I used to have a replica of Gandalf's pipe but wound up breaking it. Honestly, it didn't really smoke all that well anyway.

I have been re reading the Hobbit and trilogy yearly since about 69 or so. Love the books and the movies were pretty darn good too! I guess I will have to check out the "pipeweed " at Just For Men. As for hitting someone with a sword:checkout sca.org. Nothing like beating the beejeebers outa your best buddy on a nice weekend!

A great foursome of books. I have all on DVD and paperback (somewhere in this joint) I have tried all four blends and find the only one I didn't really care for was the "Old Toby." The other three I found to be outstanding blends. Hope you enjoy all of them, they are really worth the wait.

LOTR and Sherlock Holmes, the two books series that helped lead me to pipe smoking!
I only wish I had not purchased the DVD's, simply because between TNT and TBS, you can watch it like once every 2 months.

Ive smoked all the Middle Earth pipe-weed series by JFH and really enjoyed them all. I think Shortcut To Mushrooms is my favorite though I really enjoy Longbottom Leaf.

I love The Lord of the Rings and watched it this past weekend myself ... for the 14th time.
I read the books and the Hobbit three times from my teens to twenties.
I have Gimli's Stash and Tree Beard, both limited editions by G.L. Pease, made for NASPC (North American Society of Pipe Collectors).
I haven't popped them yet, and bought them almost a year ago at the Richmond Pipe Show.
The actual real-life tobacco that they smoked during filming of The Lord of the Rings was Stokkebye Nougat. Brian Levine, who worked at Stokkebye at the time, supplied them with several pounds of it, and then they called back for more. (Brian works at SmokingPipes.com now.)
That was mentioned in my interview with Erik Stokkebye:

I have been re reading the Hobbit and trilogy yearly since about 69 or so.

Me too Arthur, cept not as long.... 1972 for me.
I love them... I also have The Silmarillion, and another of Tolkien's books compiled by his son Christopher Tolkien called Unfinished Tales.

At one and the same time it is an excellent read and is the single most frustrating book I have ever read.

You light a pipe and become totally engrossed in an epic tale of some early hero of Middle Earth that battles an ancient and terrible dragon, the action is intense and the hero is in serious jeopardy, you turn the page...... DAMN!

So, on to the next tale.

yeah arthur i've tried the sca and enjoyed it. these days i'm too busy with school to put the time into armor repair and practice. I got a chance to fight at pennsic one year and had a roaring good time.
I've noticed that more and more movies emphasize pipe smoking these days, even one of the american pie movies.

Yep. LoTR and its pipe-smoking led me here. And now that I'm here, I look at this stupid anti-smoking, messed up, Walmart and fast-food obsessed society and want to tell everyone to chill out and smoke a pipe. Change your outlook on the world one relaxing bowl at a time.
Just for the fun of it, I've gotta try PS Nougat. I don't know if I'll ever get a chance at the Just For Him blends.

I agree with unclearthur that Jeremy Brett did probably the best Holmes portrayal. Got the whole series in my Netflix queue.

Yes, the LoTR played a huge part in a whole bunch of facets of my life. And yeah, it also inspired me not only to write, but also to smoke, when I was old enough.
Up until last year, I'd re-read the LoTR every year. Now that I'm enjoying smoking more than I had before, I think I might just get around to re-reading this with a favorite bowl... thanks for reminding me of my roots!
For the record, I'm pretty sure that each year (or for several years)at some pipe collector's conference Greg Pease (of GLPease Tobacco) made a special LoTR themed tobacco that was only available to convention-goers. It sounds to me like this 'just for Him" place cornered the market on this stuff, if we assume they didn't develop their own versions...
Thanks guys. Its kinda nice to have this in common with all of you!

Longbottom leaf was my very first pipe tobacco. I really did enjoy it especially with a nice cup of tea or a boat ride on the river on my old canoe.

I've been a big fan of the entire series, I remember my mom reading me the hobbit before I went to bed when I was a little kid... I think thats where it all went wrong hahaha.
And the Just For Him Pipeweed Series is a rather delicious series of blends if you ask me. I really enjoy Shortcut To Mushrooms from time to time and I should probably get around to trying the two blends in that which I have not tried...

THEY'RE HERE!!!! just got them today. I tried longbottom leaf and was thoroughly satisfied. it's really mellow and sweet with just a hint of vanilla that leaves a great aftertaste.
