AnchovyD: some of the D&R blends were designed to be RYO and/or pipe tobacco. But many, including the one I recommended are meant to be pipe tobacco. I've smoked fifteen of his blends in a pipe (I was never a cigarette smoker) and I liked even the RYO Three Sails. Their perique blends are awesome and their use of dark fired is as good as anybody's: spicy, woody, nutty with some strength. They are packed bone dry because Mark Ryan said he didn't want to sell water. Their prices are very reasonable and the tobacco is of high quality. Hydrate the tobaccos, and they do well.
The man who runs the company, Mark Ryan, is one of the best and smartest blenders in the USA. He's the man responsible for saving the perique crop. You really should listen to Brian Levine's interview him. Russ Ouellette has worked with him and always praises Mark's work.
I recommended the S.J. Rimbouche because the OP was looking for a good VaPer in bulk at a reasonable price, and several good blends were mentioned, so I threw in one that wasn't considered rather than just repeat the other suggestions. And, btw, even though it's not sold in bulk, his TAPS VIP VaPer is really good. Smoking Pipes sells it. I cellared half a dozen tins and will get more next time I order from them.
Here's a link to my reviews of the D&R blends I have smoked: http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/jims-dampr-reviews

Add another vote for the Peter Stokkebye bulks. I can't speak to their aromatics, since aros are not my preference, but their non-aros I have tried are all good quality and low-priced. For reaaally low price, it is possible to smoke the Red Cap No. 7 blend as a pipe tobacco. It takes a lot of effort to keep it from biting, but does make an excellent RYO cigarette.

Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake is a bit strong for me (I keep the nicotine down for health reasons) but the taste is close enough to Escudo to satisfy your need at substantially lower price (bulk). A few mason jars and a few bucks for tobacco and you will have you need fulfilled. Personally, I only buy tins when there is a sale...

H&H Anniversary Kake is a very nice VaPer blended by Russ at Pipes and Cigars and very reasonably priced at $17.99 for an 8oz tin. I've got a pound or so myself. And I too am an Escudo fan. Have ten tins of that here as well.

I'd definitely second Stokkebye's Luxury Bullseye Flake and H&H's Anniversary Kake as great affordable VaPers.
Just received a sample of Stokkebye's Luxury Navy Flake with my last order. Haven't been able to try it yet, because I'm working my way through Peterson's Summertime 2015 tin that came as well.

Not to derail this thread, but.......
Have you considered cutting back? $80 worth of Elizabethan, for example, bought from etailers, is nine 50g tins, give or take, not including shipping. That's a pound of baccy a month, give or take, 450g in 30 days, 15g daily or about six Group 4 sized bowls. In my book, that's fairly heavy smoking.

We must be interpreting the original post differently, RCStan.
I thought Carcosa was asking for some advice on good, affordable bulk tobaccos so he could knock down his monthly expenses - not, however, to be told how much he should smoke.
RCS, man, I hold your actions, thoughts and comments in pretty high regard but that statement, "Have you considered cutting back?" seems presumptuous. I'm sure you don't tell obviously overweight people in a restaurant to cancel the fries and order a spinach salad instead and I'd bet a nice piece of change you'd always encourage a newb to look at a freshly reclaimed piece of vintage English briar over yet another drugstore OTC burner.
As members here - obviously at Kevin's largesse - we're opinionated and allowed to express those opinions in a civil and kindly manner. But suggesting somebody smoke more or less is well outside of winter rules. There are some folks here who only smoke once or twice a week. (Personally? I wouldn't bother. But I'd certainly never tell them that.) Me? I smoke two to three bowls a day and I'm sure there are plenty of members here who'd regard me as a candy-ass.
By the way, Carcosa, you've received some killer ideas. H&H tobaccos just might be your most affordable route as Mr. Oulette makes some damned tasty smokes.
I'm really sorry I took this post off-kilt, Carcosa. You certainly didn't ask for this.
But, RCStan, double damn you if you get butt-hurt on me disagreeing with you. Even if it's virtual, we are still manly men, doing manly things in the company of men. And if we continue to disagree, then screw it. We're still acquaintances and we'll move on.
Cheers,
Fnord

Slightly unorthodox suggestion:

Instant VaPer, medium strength, $2 per ounce.

I'll chime in for Stokkebye's Luxury Navy Flake also. I've been buying a pound and a half box every month. I smoke less than that, so I get to put some away as the inflation hedge.

I've been getting the 1.5 pound box from the site sponsors and it's been between 40 and 45 dollars each time. Almost half of the 80 dollars monthly you want to cut back from.

It may not be the best Va/Per flake out there, but I believe that considering the points you ticked off, such as price, flavor, and moisture content, it's one of the best "bang for the buck" flakes out there.
