Hello,

just had me a rare “zen smoke” with HU Dark moor.

I know its well received. I get the hype now for sure.

I only bought the one tin and it is 100 g I think, but I gotta get some more.

It is a bit pricey comparatively. Anyone have similar recommendations? Kentucky-Virginia-Perique without topping? Would love to explore this category.

Such great stuff. Thank you!

Va/DFK/Per blends seem to have shot up in popularity the last few years. I think there are quite a few out there from various blenders with various leaf ratios.

A couple you may like to explore are Pease Cumberland and McConnell Folded Flake.
Savinelli Doblone D’Oro is another one that I enjoy.

I'll second what Bluegrassbrian said and recommended GL Pease Cumberland. I read the tin description for Dark Moor and it sounds real close to stuff I like so I'm excited to crack in to it at some point.

Is it? If it is it’s more expensive on an order of cents. It’s about $0.27/gram. The average C&D tin (at 56.6 grams) is about $0.24/gram.

The only reason I even mention it is, for me, that’s not enough of a price difference to make me not smoke what I love and want to smoke. Obviously we’re all different and I respect those differences.

GL Pease Penny Farthing although it’s slightly different it gets my vote because of it.
I always get that confused with eastfarthing (sutliff i think), but ive heard of it-never tried it.

slightly different is okay by me. i like and smoke everything!

definitely definitely cumberland next for me then ahaha!!

im bad at describing tobaccos and my palate is kinda basic, so I dont think I can do the darkmoor justice for you. It just tasted real clean. i got some spice from the perique, tang from the kentucky, and the sweet sweet virginia release/backbeat!!

I hope you like it

yeah, youre right. I think when you figure its 100 g, it changes things. I think I always look at bottom dollar and like being able to purchase smaller amounts as Ive only been smoking about a yearish and want to try as many as I can to develop my tastes lol.

Its palatable for me to be able to buy bulk or a 10-15 tin for “a taste” as compared to 25-30 USD.

If I want to try a bunch of Hu tobaccos, its gonna cost a lot more than smoking through a bunch of C and D.

Its less of a commitment with the smaller packaging- I guess and why I like it, but yeah, cents to cents, Im sure not much different. I prob should have phrased differently!!

It’s a Shag Cut but just enough DFK to keep it interesting. Great flavor especially going slow with it.
I LOVE shag because they take to the match so easily.

Ratios actually have me intrigued too. I gotta try this one. I love finding ideas like this. appreciate it very much

Brown Clunee, Hal O the Wynd and Old Gowrie come to mind. BC has more perique. HOTW more Kentucky. And OG more Virginias.
those are rattrays right? I havent tried those yet, but Ive had some of their aromatics-Bagpipers Dream and Exotic Orange.

Loved both of those, especially piper

I was hesitant to buy more pease because I had such a hard time smoking horizons. Ultimately, I think I got it figured out, and Im sure it was largely my fault and being new to flake ahahah. so now, cumberland and penny farthing sounding much better (even better that not flakes to boot)

darkmoor really struck me. i like a little of everything , and have tried a modest amount, but this was so unique, like hoosier said.
