Looking For Search Assistance

Hi all,

I'm new to pipe smoking, 60 years old, have a pretty good handle on my entry into the hobby thanks to online information. My father passed when I was young and he smoked a pipe as well, this is circa late 60s in the New England area. I'm trying to discover the brand of tobacco he smoked as it had a distinctive odor I really enjoy. My mom is still with us and can't recall the brand, but she thinks the packaging would have included a black bottom, a green top section, and a white band across the middle, possibly at an angle.

I assume he would have smoked commercially available tobacco and not been paying for some unique or hard to find brands. If any of this rings a bell, please share recommendations for brands for me to try, I will instantly know if that's the one.

Thanks for the swift responses, and I should have added I tried half and half and it was not the scent I was looking for. I was at a holiday market recently and smelled the scent, and I was unable to track down the person smoking it. And my mom's hint about packaging may be a rat hole. I did some research on tobaccos readily available in that period and have been working my way through them. Thanks again for the responses, it's very much appreciated.

I notice when smoking that the room note for the person smoking is usually different than the person
In the area who is not smoking it.

Hi and welcome from Northamptonshire England, you should try to be like most of us and try every blend you can get your hands on, this is part of a great hobby. I can never smell my tobacco but if I walk out the room and then walk back in I can smell it, so start experimenting and enjoy.

Consider the feedback so far...I grew up surrounded by Half and Half smokers. To this day it is a smell of home and my youth. When I took up the pipe it was my natural first choice. I found it to be pretty meh...and I did not get any of that sweet bright aroma in my mouth or retrohale. You may want to try smoldering some without smoking it so you can get the aroma without it passing your mouth first.

It was an intense moment for me, having an odor be so unique and distinctive having not smelled it for over 50 years. I'm a man on a mission and I enjoy a good challenge.
