You are right about acrylic stems. They look nice, they last long and they don't oxidize.
If you keep them cleaned and oiled, ebonite ones don't oxidize either. On pipes I've bought new and estates I've cleaned up, I've not had one oxidize in thirty years.

What wax do you use for your mustache?
I used to use Stache Bomb, now it mostly just grows that way.

I would be a sceeert to smoke such a piece!
Why heresy?

In my brief time in the hobby of pipes I have found there are the Group known only as The Order of Holy briar and frown upon a metallic element to their pipes....even a stinger is seen as defilement.

Then there are those who grudgingly accept that a metal pipe has it’s benefits.

Then there are those who are all in on a metal pipe.

Personally, I am anxiously awaiting the KB special edition Falcon to arrive and am working on an order for a Kristen....

So I cannot in good faith proffer a real world opinion, just one based on my forum readings and what I gleaned from such.

I clench pretty much all day some days, when I’m working on knives. I know the original request was for a full bent, but you’d be negligent in my opinion to dismiss cobs as an option. Super lightweight. I do wish there were other stem options. I prefer a wider bit, but that’s life.

Also, a straight Falcon works fine as a clencher, easily light weight enough. I bought my first not long ago, but I got the brown aluminum base that looks a little less like a plumbing fixture, which was my problem with Falcon. I like it real well. For no particular reason I know, it has become my Mixture No. 79 pipe, but I feel it will do many blends really well. 79 burns evenly and well, with few relights, so complements the utility of the pipe in general.

Never owned one (for the exact reasons you stated), so I didn’t consider advising one. Maybe I should look into one of those myself.
