EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) - Bob

I like John Bull, which is labeled as an English tobacco. It contains black Cavendish, Burley, Latakia, and Virginia. I've added a little burley to it and think I like that even better.

Can anyone recommend a blend similar to John Bull? Preferably bulk, but tin would be okay too. Looking for something I can stock up on, as not a lot of places seem to have the John Bull.

Might not be much easier to find but Rattray's Red Rapparree may suit your fancy. Similar basic ingredients and a subdued latakia presence like JB.

Peter Stokkebbye PS 306 English Oriental Supreme is one in bulk that may work as well.

Never had John Bull, so take both of those with a grain of salt, haha. Just going off the description and components.

Try Lord Nelson by Sutliff. Also, their 965 match, Match 20 has a touch of burley as well. If you like a bit of top flavor, Count Pulaski and Aromatic English or Lane HGL are good choices. You may also like the Walnut and Revelation matches. They have more variance in the tobaccos, but are similar in some ways.

Thanks. I do like the Revelation Match. I add a little perique to it and it's really good.

If you like perique in your mix, I also highly recommend Sutliff Voodoo Queen! It mostly contains their Mocha slices, a broken flake made from burley and VA, and a good amount of condimental Latakia and Perique. It has a bit of coffee and berry flavor typical of Dutch blends, but the latakia and perique make it more English in nature. I guess it would be considered a crossover.

Pipes and Cigars has John Cottons Sweet English. Its a light latakia blend with burley, virginia, black cavendish and latakia. I have not tried it but the reviews sound good as an all day smoke. And now that I,ve read all that, I would like to try it myself, I love English blends. I think there's another similar John Cotton blend also.

Here
I enjoy the Gawith & Hoggarth #25 Mixture. It lacks the cavendish, but is a nice blend. It's also often the one of the last GH&Co items to go out of stock.

I also like the GH&Co Scotch Mixture. It has all of the same components as John Bull and is almost as easy to find in stock, online.

I did smoke through a pouch of John Bull a year or two ago. I remember enjoying it but failed to do any comparisons to other blends.

HERE's my rather noob-ish impression of the Scotch Mixture, mentioning also the John Bull and others I've had that use a lighter touch with the latakia.

@mso489 could likely add to the discussion, as he also likes the lighter latakia blends, IIRC.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I placed an order for several of them to try, and found a few others to add to my order. Should be fun trying them all.

Comparing all these blends got me to thinking. I added some Price Albert to John Bull and I think it's pretty good that way too. I tried some Sutliff Burley J4 and it didn't work as well. I mixed two parts John Bull to one part Price Albert, and it really smoothed it out. I'm thinking of upping it to 3:1 as I'm not getting as much of the taste of the main blend as I'd want, but the 2:1 is a good blend on its own.
