Got this beautiful, brand new, Medico Block Meerschaum from eBay.
I did not know they made Meerschaums with yellow colored stems. I thought they only made them with black stems.
Based on the brochure that came with the pipe; this pipe is from the 1970's....I did not know they made Block Meerschaums into the 70's, I thought they were only made in the 50's and 60's.
It's so pretty I don't even want to smoke it but I will be soon.IMG_20220216_134528.jpgIMG_20220216_134543.jpgIMG_20220216_134714.jpgIMG_20220216_134702.jpg

Funny, up until a few years ago, all I had ever seen on meerschaums were colored stems. I'm curious as to whether it is real block meerschaum or not. I see these all the time, and can't help but think they are lying because of the price.

It's a beautiful pipe, and I hope it brings you many years of enjoyment.
I have 2 other Medico meerschaums with black stems....They are definitely block meerschaum...but I don't think it's from Turkey because it seems heavier and doesn't color as fast as the Turkish meerschaums I own.....some folks have said it's African meerschaum, but I have no idea. They smoke great and make the tobacco taste great.

This yellow stemmed pipe actually had a sticker on the bottom of the stem and it said Medico Crest Meerschaum $25. $25 in 1973 is almost $160 today.

Doesn’t get much more pristine than that! I’m not a big meerschaum guy but I’m a little jealous of that one.

I bought a cheap "meerschaum" to see if I like it (and to make sure my clumsy ass won't break a nice one). It was under $15 with shipping and no, I'm not looking to be impressed.

What are the odds it will color? Any odds on it exploding or melting upon the initial light?

I'm not holding my breath on either.

Is it new or an estate? $15 with shipping definitely seems sketchy....

Very nice find! I'd be tempted to keep it just as it is.
Already had 2 bowls in it, first bowl was Wessex Gold Slice and it definitely had that new meerschaum chalky kind of taste.....second bowl was Peterson Flake and it wasn't too chalky....I would think by bowl 5 it will be good to go. The other 2 Medico meerschaums I own only needed a couple bowls to really break them in. It was rough to put the lighter to the bowl seeing how pristine it was.......
