Are these tins built for cellaring? I imagine the manufacturer stores them like this but if you had several pounds of expensive tobacco (aren’t they all) in 2 oz cardboard tins would you keep them sealed or open all and jar them?

Most are metal or at least have a metallic liner. What tins are cardboard?

Define long term.
I can't really say. With me, that's kind of like asking "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop". Hypothetically speaking, I'd like to say years, but I haven't built up enough reserves as of yet to do that. All I can offer is a weak "as long as possible". You guys have put enough fear of the impending "tobaccopalypse" in me that I will be working diligently on building my cellar.

I think cardboard tins and tubs have foil liners and are securely sealed. If you have doubts and/or live in a challenging climate -- humid or extra hot or cold -- you should probably jar it if you plan to age it for some years.

I wouldn't worry about them for up to 10 years. And probably longer. I probably have around 15 to 20 pounds of SPC blends in the cellar and am not doing anything special. I know I'm not going to transfer the tobacco to jars. I may put some sealed tins in 7 mm mylar bags as insurance.
