Can I store these bags as they are for long term, or do I need to remove the tobacco and jar it up?

I read on another thread that the GH bags can be stored as is, just curious about these.

Over five years ago I bought two bags like this of HH Vintage Syrian from Smoking Pipes. I asked customer service whether the tobacco could be stored in the bag long term. For what it's worth, they said yes. Because I have quite a bit in a jar, I haven't opened the bag so I can't tell you whether it's still fresh.

I had a bag of Vintage Syrian that I had forgotten about and found when I was rearranging my stocks in a closet. It was dry as dust. I did manage to rehydrate it, but it had lost a little bit of punch. Still, quite good. At five years I would expect that it has completely dried out.

I've recently a couple of bags of most used blends unjarred for a couple of years and they're fine. I found a bag of Elizabethan Match purchased in 2017 that I had forgotten to jar and it was just as pliant as the day it arrived.

North Georgia mountains.
Man I'm torn. Reading some contradictory opinions in this thread. I have many of these bags stashed away in a dark closet, I've left them in the bags thinking I'd at least get a couple years out of the stroing.

I've thought about jars, but may go with Mylar to save space. Anyway, I do plan on taking the contents out of the bag for alternative storage.

I had the jars already, so I went ahead and jarred it all up. There were the three I showed in the picture, and another five bags (same bags).

I did notice that one of those eight bags had a small pinhole. I could tell because I gave it a squeeze and could hear the air coming out. The tobacco inside did not seem overly dry. The rest of the bags seemed fine.

I’m still leaving the GH stuff in the bags, but I am giving them all a good squeeze just to make sure there aren’t any holes in those bags.

They'll be fine.

Depends on the type of plastic those bags are made of. It may deteriorate sooner or later.

The problem is we don't have any way of knowing how permeable the bag is until it's too late. puffy

" and it was just as pliant as the day it arrived." Sorry to hear that. I thought it might have gotten good. puffy

It has always amused me that we worry about jarring, baging or mylaring our tobacco so it doesn't get dry and the first thing we do when we open the jar is to put it out to dry so we can smoke it.

Many bags I've bought over the past couple of years I've left unjarred just for convenience. This is from Fall 2020 and is still soft.
