Long Spiked Lug Nuts

Has anyone every driven too close to those tractor trailers that have those long menacing spiked lug nuts and ripped up their car and or tyres? Every time I pass one I wonder how many people have done so and exactly what sort of damage occurred. It hasn't happened to me yet but with my luck anything is possible!

We see them on the highway a couple times a week. They're certainly menacing looking, which is probably why they're used—to deter drivers from getting too close to the truck. I wonder if they would really cause any damage—it's not like they're blades and will slash a tire.

Not sure if you ever hanged out at mall arcades in the 80s but they also make me think of one of my very favorite arcade games- Spy Hunter in which you had the option of emptying an oil slick behind you or using similar spikes in your wheels.

No but I had a client driving his semi on the freeway late one night who lost one of his split rim tires which flew into the winshield of the car driving behind him injuring the driver. Needless to say, the case settled.

i don't think the ones you are talking about actually stick out any further than the actual wheel itself. They haven't been the cause of any actual wrecks that I have heard about.

You need at least a hard 8 inches to cause any serious damage, you'll be fine.

In 90%+ of the cases they are covers, and will fly off if hit.

If you are within a foot of a 70ft vehicle that’s rolling 40tons, the lug nuts are the least of your problems.

Ahi Ka, sadly a condition of my parole is to no longer incorporate poultry dying into my skits. I tried for a while to substitute ferrets but they are wily little mammals and one even managed to crawl up my pant leg during a show and try his own funny business on me.
