Tonight I received a sample from a member of Boswell Northwoods. This is a tobacco I have wanted to try since day 1 of pipe smoking. Why wait so long you may ask. I only order tobaccos about once every 3 months if that and to get Northwoods you must order directly from Boswells. There were so many other blends and styles I wanted to try I never committed to trying a whole order of a blend I may not like. In other words I was out to get the largest number of new blends I wanted to try for the dollar. I think the wait has made this smoke all that much better. I am smoking some right now and LOVING it.

Northwoods is one of the best kept secrets in English blends, although the word is getting out. Fabulously balanced flavor between all the ingredients and a great taste all the way down to the bottom of the bowl. This may be J.R.'s greatest creation. If you are an English smoker and haven't tried it, you really must! Boswell's will sell by the by the oz. so you can create your own sampler pack.

I smoked English blends for 20 years before discovering Northwoods, and it's become one of my all-time favorites. It's really special stuff. Glad you've found it, too!

Agree with Al, it can be cut too rough....then I grab a big bowled pipe and have at it...

I always have some on hand...it's great stuff!

I thought FMOTB was the best until I tried Northwoods. I think I'll smoke a bowl now.

You can trim down Northwoods if it is very thick and coarse with one or two ONE SECOND bursts in a coffee grinder. Get an inexpensive one for this, wives get very mad about Latakia in their coffee grinders.

Ah, thanks smoker442, hadn't thought of that. I just happen to have a coffee grinder we never use. I got in trouble grinding coffee in the darn thing by getting grounds everywhere. The next day, my brother said I wasn't doing it right and proceeded to make an ever bigger mess. The wife confiscated and stashed it in the basement. Now to be re-purposed!
