Yeah, I should amend my previous post that blends with a characteristic topping I try to smoke right away, so I'll rub them out fine and pack lightly as needed.
The flavour didn't hit the same? The cube cut flake was kind of a fail. Not that great. It was an aro flake.
I'm primarily a Virginia smoker and as the article says this works great with Virginia blends. I haven't done it with English blends yet so can't say there but I'll get to it.That’s the Delayed Gratification. Yes it’s a real thing. I had to read about it and try it.

I actually enjoy doing this with burley blends. To me, really brings out the flavor of a burley blend.I'm primarily a Virginia smoker and as the article says this works great with Virginia blends. I haven't done it with English blends yet so can't say there but I'll get to it.
Yeah I do a chat light as well when I get the notion to prep a pipe for the following day. I don’t fo this nearly enough thoI always pack and char-light an “after work” pipe before going in, mostly because after work I just want to get home and don’t want to take time preparing, loading, and char-lighting before hitting the road. I don’t know if an eight hour rest makes any difference to the smoke, but it sure saves time!
I just light it enough to cover the very top of the bowl. I don’t draw down into the bowl. I put the flame above the bowl and draw down so the flame just touches the top layer of tobacco, set the tamper on top and give it a little spin to spread the ash evenly and I’m done. Now it’s ready to go when I’m ready to smoke.Out of curiosity, when you say char, how long to you char/puff it for? I’ve experimented with the amount of time charing but don’t know if there is a happy medium or sweet spot
Was curious. I usually smoke mine a bit more before putting them down.I just light it enough to cover the very top of the bowl. I don’t draw down into the bowl.
