I just tried McCranies version of Early Morning Pipe...it was alright, but I wouldn't write home about it.

I'm far from being any kind of expert on English Blends but I do know what I like.
I love Dunhill 965, but my favorite is Dunhill Early Morning.

I think Early Morning is perfect however, it is dangerous for me to smoke it around my wife.

She (the War Department) keeps several heavy objects (for hurling at me) close at hand when I'm smoking it.

So what you're saying is you only like discontinued/hard-to-find blends... Dunhill's are not shipped yet. Penzance has all been snatched up. Squadron Leader is scarce as are all SG Blends, and the GL Pease blends are all discontinued. Guess you don't smoke too many of your favorites. Either that, or you've got some serious jonesin' going on... LOL! I hope you got some of the Penzance when the shipments came in about a month ago...

I believe that McC 5100 is a virginia,not an english, and it is my favorite VA tobacco.
For English tobaccos:

C&D Quiet Night

Crown Achievement (original or look a like)

Butera royal Vintage #1 and #2

I have ways of getting Penzance. Other than that, I haven't really been floored by a latakia blend in a long time. I find that my most sublime smokes come from Virginias these days. I still get cravings...hard cravings, for latakia and I do keep a "tried and true" like Penzance around at all times for such cravings. I always have at least one "go to" latakia, and one "I'm trying it" latakia on the go.

Since we're on an English kick, I thought I'd revive my thread on your Favorite English blends with a twist. Since there is a buying frenzy on Penzance ( Ebay record of $113.00 for a 8oz foil bag last week), is there any blends out there which you've tried which is close to the magical Penzance? I've heard that "Old Ironsides" by CAO, and Captain Earle's Mystic Blend is a similar flavor.

Really like both of these, and they're my favorite English blends, because they're the only 2 I've tried thus far...

Hearth and Home Ten till Midnight is very close to Penzance. I have tried them side by side and where Penzance still wins Hearth and Home is pretty good.

Even though I am happy with these, I am always in search of something new.
