I'm a technophile, myself - don't ask how many functional computers I have in my house, or how many mobile/portable electronic devices... but when it comes to setting things on fire, I still like matches. Sure, the burnt-out ends qualify as "litter", but they're biodegradable. And I use an ashtray anyway.
Of course, since the bulk of my smoking is done outdoors in a windy climate, matches are of limited use much of the time, so I've pretty much made the switch to a very reliable Zippo pipe lighter. I have a refillable butane one as well, as a backup, but it's generally either a match or the Zippo (unless I'm lunting at work and the Zippo fuel has all evaporated...).
