If you prefer the figgy side of perique, have you tried the VA/pers from Esoterica? They taste radically different than C&D and Pease blends. The perique has almost no spice and melds well with the slightly fruity casing that they use for their Virginia leaf.
Yeah. Just run on down to your local 7/11 and pick up a few 8 ounce bags of the stuff.
It's deeply stocked right next to the Copenhagen display. puffy

Agree with that, I very much enjoy Dorchester.
Dorchester has a distinct barnyard smell that can be a bit off-putting. If you can overcome the tin note, it is a very nice, tasty, mild smoke. So is Dunbar. One of them is a little stronger but I forget which one. They are both decent VaPers.

The stuff is hard to get your hands on though as smart-ass-edly mentioned (by me :) ) above...

OGS is your second best bet.

Your first best bet is to buy some very nice Straight Virginia and some very nice Perique, like C&D Blending Perique (which is VERY nice St. James Parish Perique) and a gram scale. Start experimenting. This method is quite rewarding. There is only 1 blend I don't add a little something to that I personally felt is was missing. The rest get the treatment.

While you are at it you should get a few blending components and go wild. Personally, I have the following in my blending kit:

Perique
Latakia
Smyrna
Yenidje
Cigar Leaf
DFK
3 different Burleys
Green River Cavendish

It's also a great way to discover what each component tastes and smells like on its own.

Just my 2 cents. puffy

BTW Dorchester improves 100% with 10% DFK in it. Just saying. :)

the perique in this one is more of a suggestion really. Pretty great flake too. I should get a few tins of that when I get more cash to spend.

Yeah, I don't have access to any pipe tobacco locally, though I can still find Esoterica Dunbar online. It is not unattainable like Penzance.

Astley's No.2 Virginia Mixture is also on the figgy side of the perique flavor spectrum. It is sweet and not spicy at all.

I would suggest Treasures of Ireland Limmerick by Dan Tobacco. It provides the taste and no piquancy. It is a VaPer flake, the one of the many I have tried where Perique piquancy is almost non existent but the flavor still comes trough.
