Oh horrible, horrible. Who would want to put their life on the line to do that? You'd have to be a total adrenalin junkie.
Probably because it's a "process" shot. Very skillfully done, but not real.
When you have decades of making visual effects imagery you spot the comps.
Maybe not real, but the old photos of guys working on the high steel during the ‘20s is enough to make you dizzy.

Jesse, I have no experience of such matters but spotted it as a fake straight away. Still, it made my heart skip a beat as I'm terrified of heights!

Jesus. My fingers are so sweaty they keep slipping off the keys.
If it weren't a process shot, imagine the position of the person taking the picture. The Mohawk nation supplied a lot of the iron structure workers for New York sky scrapers, and they took pride in their profession. I don't know what the statistics on worker falls/fatalities were. Seems like one mistake was it. One hangover or one case of the flu.

I'm not an easily scared person but heights give me chills.
Heights really bother me so even a fake shot gets me spooked.
Such as an almost unlimited depth of field??
Pretty sure top photo is real, and the gang on the beam is faked.
They both look fake to me.
The cable in the top photo just doesn't look right, there seems to be an black outline along the cable.
The third guy on the beam looks like he's leaning forward as if he's ready to fall off.
I appreciate all the good people in this thread who have put in the hard work of exposing these photos as fakes. It's a real public service and one that will help many.
