From those who met him, yes, along with a whole lot of other things, but for him the bang was always more important than the mellow, so his drugs of choice lay more in that direction.

Ive been spinning Hawkwind since yesterday in his honor. Space Ritual is one of their best albums IMO.

1916 was one of their high points for me. It and the first album have the most internal variety.
Generally I just listen to the live albums. They just about smell like sweat, whisky and mothballs.
