Indeed we always have a great time. Actually, the venue and setting aren't as important as the pipestering and company, but they certainly help. The Wooden Match in Bethlehem is one of the rare places in the country, maybe the world, where a bunch of us can puff indoors and be served drink and food. Although Morley's PC in Philly is another rare situation and has the best value for cooked-to-order dinners, The Wooden Match does have better food (for a reasonably fair price).
I personally bring about 2 dozen pipes, since I am picky about chamber size and geometry vs. blend types. But I figure on loading maybe 5 or six for the night. Since I have dedicated VA and VA/Per pipes, that makes for the seeming redundancy in the number of pipes. The format is like a winetasting, except with tobaccos. Since I like to rest each pipe at least several days, I don't reuse the same pipe in the evening. I'll DGT several of the bowls, capping them with windcaps, though I suppose rolled up pipe cleaners will do. I suggest bringing as many pipes as you plan to load.
