I often wonder how much the high aftermarket prices for esoterica is just bragging rights combined with fomo (as it's made exclusively for the us market)
Some of it is bragging rights, but a lot of the buyers on the secondary market are Asian pipe smokers and they will pool their money to buy something they will enjoy sharing together.

The Cuban cigar embargo inspired many Americans to chase them long after their quality decreased and other cigars improved from Cuban stock. If you can't get, it must be good.

There are many blends today equal to or better than, depending on what your palate likes, many of the now unavailable blends some here wax so eloquently and fondly about. When some Dunhill blends started downhill, many, many years ago, I simply found replacements, they're out there, and never looked back. Blends change year to year, usually subtly, sometimes very disagreeably, just find another satisfactory replacement. It's not hard with the number of blends available. But, yearning for something unattainable is simply a waste of time and emotion.
