After doing a lot of reading, I think that the pipe I got at the start of this thread was, as storient suggested, made from Amboseli meerschaum. I'm thinking its not a Kiko brand, since it doesn't have their elephant logo. My guess is Vienna Meerschaum imported the blocks from Amboseli to make the pipe. The strange spotted appearance that the pipe in the movie, and my pipe have, I think is from the African meerschaum. African meerschaum is known to not be pure like Turkish. I bet, that if the pipe were ever broken, that the spots go all the way through the stone.
I think its impossible to perfectly duplicate the spots on the African meerschaum by using modern Turkish meerschaum, but Storient's new pipe does look great to me. I want to thank Storient and their carvers for recreating this pipe for those of us who love our westerns. The trick now, is to find an angry, armed, semi psycho, cheroot smoking, hunchback in a pub, to light our pipe off of! lol
Some other info about Amboseli meerschaum is here: http://pipedia.org/index.php?title=Kiko
Good luck to the other members who are wanting a pipe like this, and remember keep your eyes peeled! Pick one up from Storient, or play the waiting game and maybe, just maybe, you will spot an original one on eBay.
