I got this beautiful Savinelli "Punto Oro" of e-bay a few days ago.

It smokes really well and has a nice grain, my nicest pipe so far.

On the second smoke I tapped it against my hand to get the ashes out and I was left with only the stem in my hand...

The pipe had broken in two parts and the tenon was left in the bowl.

I got the tenon out with a wood-screw and a pair of pliers.

The bowl luckily landed in the grass and was not damaged.
There is acrylic glue on the market that "melts" alt. "welds" the two parts together.

Is it worth a try?

Can a new stem be ordered from Savinelli?

Can a new tenon in Delrin be ordered somewhere?
My other pipes has a wider tenon for 9mm filter and this one is thinner and quite delicate and obviuosly has to be handled much more gently.

Ah well.. live and learn :)

I have heard sanding both parts down and using super glue works. I suppose it is worth a try trying to contact Savinelli if it is a newer pipe but otherwise the only option for a replacement is if you do it yourself or send it to a professional. That really stinks though that it broke.

You could try asking UncleArthur. He makes some pretty awesome pipes, he could probably tell you how to repare it good as new.

Replacing the tenon with a delrin tenon is tricky at best. Your best bet would be a good repair shop fitting a new stem. There are also some shops who will replace the tenon for you. I can't remember exactly who off hand. So far I have yet to see a dependable home fix.

@unclearthur

What about the acrylic glue, do you think it would form a strong enough bond?
I found this clip on youtube and I probably would still give it a try to fit a delrin tenon if I could source one.

Wow tabbaq. Sorry to hear that sad story. I tap my pipes on the palm of my hand every day to get the last bit of ashes out.
You might consider contacting Savinelli. Unless you have the strength of a super hero, that shouldn't happen.

I agree with Kevin. That should not happen. That pipe was probably already damaged and possibly glued. There is no reason for it to break from just a knock to the open palm of your hand.

No super powers used ;)

I was really surprised when it happened, wtf.. :(

I agree that tapping out the last bits of ash should not break it.

Since it was an estate of e-bay there is no guarantee and difficult to prove any hidden faults. This week I will visit a tobacco-shop that is a Savinelli agent and check the price for a new stem.
Since my funds are limited and I'm a fixer I will repair it myself if the other options are to pricy.
Could a small tube of stainless-steel, brass or bronze be used as a tenon?

Wow, sorry to hear that tabbaq. I tap my pipes on the palm of my hand from the stem all the time. What an eye-opener...I'm going to start holding the pipe from the bowl from now on when doing so.
I hope the surgery on your Punto Oro comes out a success and that it stays in your collection for many years to come! :D
