A pasta machine will work for awhile. It is a good starting point. If you really get in to blending your own tobacco you'll eventually want to get a better quality machine. Your best bet would be to pick up a used one an Ebay or some other similar place.

Don't waste your money on that. I have one and I can get a better shred by just ripping the leaf with my teeth!

You might get it down to a routine and a science so you'll smoke nothing else. However, at least it will make you content to pay ten bucks (or whatever your local tariff is) for a tin of tobacco once you see what goes into it.
