I watched an episode of this old show on PBS tonight. They said it was from 1969.For some who may not be old enough to know about the show.It was a comedy show.Prety much a city version of Hee Haw.One of the hosts was a fella named Dan Rowan. One of the things he was known for was having a pipe in his hand during the show.In fact on Wikipedia they show a picture of him smoking a pipe.It looks like it was taken from the show.Times sure have changed.

The fickle finger of fate, and Goldie Hawn, not to mention Ruth Buzzie and Artie (Shaw)? I saw my first episode when I returned from overseas. I was in Camp Zama, Japan, I also watched the movie Mash, Downhill Racer, and Paint Your Wagon while in Camp Zama. Great memories Puffy. Thanks for jogging the noodle. Shows I missed while touring Southeast Asia on foot. (LPC"S) Leather Personel Carriers

It was a great show. My senior year in high school ('67-'68) I only watched two programs on the idiot box - Smothers Brothers on Sunday night, and Laugh-In on Monday. Brilliant television in both cases.

Keep in mind they have run this 'round the block a few times in syndication for us slightly less tenured (thank you Nick at Night). GREAT show, and still more than a little transgressive after all this time.
My father-in-law "acquires" a lot of old TV, and even radio drama; I'm going to have to hit him up on this one. Thanks for the reminder, gents!
(as an aside, numbersix, my lady and her dad are HUGE "Prisoner" fans, so big nod your way, man!)

That's great to hear. The show for me was very powerful (if a bit campy by today's standards)

I had the good fortune of seeing many of the old comedy reruns via Nick-at-Night when I was younger; Rowan & Martin's Laugh in was one of them. And I do indeed remember the pipe. Now that I think of those episodes, it seems they were able to achieve good humor without exploring the obnoxious. I wish they still made shows like those.

Don't forget, this is the show that also made Lily Tomlin a star. . . all because of that hilarious telephone-operator bit she did as Ernestine.
She recently said in an Entertainment Weekly interview that she can't imagine break-out stardom like that happening today. Because, back then there were only three networks. And a single segment on a show as hugely popular as Laugh-In could have a huge cultural impact. (How popular? Does anyone else remember the fact that a sitting president actually appeared on the show? That was groundbreaking.)
BTW, I was an adolescent when Laugh-In was at the height of its popularity, and I can remember watching it with my very anxious parents. . . because you never knew what was going to happen on that show!

That was one of my favorite shows. It raised the bar for comedy and had a great cast.
I remember Dan Rowan often smoking a pipe on the show, but thought nothing of it at the time. Times sure have changed.

The sitting president was Richard Nixon if my recollection is correct.
Correct, and that bit of trivia was also the question asked on "Who wants to be a millionaire" that resulted in the first milliionaire on the quiz show.
