That’s what I do.Absolutely none of what we talk about on here really makes a difference . . . why try to make everyone feel about because they are talking about a niche topic on a forum specifically created for that topic?

In Canada, that wouldn’t even get you 50 grams / 1.76 ounces.Just when did $47.50 become "affordable"?
Oh, Canada, WTF happened to you?In Canada, that wouldn’t even get you 50 grams / 1.76 ounces.![]()
I guess I just don't get that effect from any pipe tobacco or at least not in a long as time.Don't get me wrong, I love Cornell & Diehl, but I've yet to smoke any blend from them that I'd call "mellow". Even smoking their flagship aromatic Autumn Evening (which is 100% pure Red Virginia Cavendish) feels like Jeremy Reeves personally walked up, punched me in the throat, and called me a pussy by the time I get down to the last third of the bowl!
C'mon guys, Cavendish is supposed to be really gentle and easygoing stuff! What did they steam it with, rocket fuel? I'll always love C&D's Burley blends, and Haunted Bookshop may very well be my all time favorite pipe blend period, but I feel like they might want to leave the mass market brick and mortar bulk aromatics to Lane. They're gonna give some poor old codger who's used to smoking 1-Q a heart attack!![]()
Great explanation.It's
So true. I use it in an oriental/burley forward blend and it plays nicely.EDIT: Sutliff 515 RC1 was created as a blending tobacco and not intended originally as a standalone. I still think that it works best as a blending component.
Great explanation.
I use (used?) 515 RC-1 and TS1R for my home blends. As much as I like 515 RC-1, I still thinking that TS1R is overestimated. It's more harsh and requires much more attention (ages well, though).
Talking about C&D blending components and bulk: I'm feeling desperation about the VA blending components they offer. Looks like they use the best for themselves. Any try of their red (and I like the red so much) was like I have something wrong on my tongue - either less sugar or some dusty feeling or much woody than I like. And every time it was different. I'd like to have blending VA they use in CRF/CRFP. I have around 70 tins of each on my shelves (in real, yes! - 70 CRF, 67 CRFP, different batches) - and won't stop to buy it. But! I'd like to use the same red for blending - well, just a pound please!
I have some 120 lbs stored and consume around 2 oz per week, so, stil it's not enough! At the rate I smoke (maybe 3 bowls a week, occasionally skipping), your CRF and CRFP would keep me going for 18+ years!
Fk ‘em-I’ve got no use for a man that dresses like a lumberjack that’s never set foot in the wild.No offense to any such mustachioed hipsters.
None of the pipe tobacco producers grow. They all buy from brokers. So there is a very good chance that some of them use the same leaf. Certainly, whoever supplied Mac Baren/Sutliff will be looking for new markets, with aggresive pricing, so expect to see these tobaccos again.Fk ‘em-I’ve got no use for a man that dresses like a lumberjack that’s never set foot in the wild.
I’m glad to see C&D putting this line out, even if it’s not my thing.
Regarding the loss of 515-RC-1, I’m curious if I start having Amazon randomly drop off gallons of vinegar to Laudisi’s offices would MrReeves get the hint?

It's a knowledge vs experience thing. Is knowing something the equivalent of experiencing it? Sadly, for some, it is.That’s awesome, and of course true. But how will those of us not “in the know” know?![]()
Well, none of us are getting younger.Yikes, I thought that's what they looked like before the alcohol.

Please Mike, come back to us!Sorry to disappoint... But the volume that pipe tobacco manufacturers acquires is a drop in the bucket to cigarettes, literally. So we funnell off of that. The yearly amount of Mac Baren Virginia leaf ordered (I think last year it was 35x 40 foot containers) seems like a lot, but it's not. I asked our leaf guy Franz today if leaf will be cheaper to buy, because STG now has doubled it's volume... He laughed. Nope. The cigarette guys set the prices.
But: the good news.... Speaking to leaf guys that have been on the industry for 30-40 years, the quality, amount of grades, scientific discoveries and availability of premium leaf has never been as good as today (take that, Mike McNeil)
Wouldn't that be something! Please Mike, come back to us!![]()
