It's really amazing how celebrities can get away with stuff that us regular people can't.
"World Series hero" Jim Leyritz killed a 30-year old mother of 3 in a drunk driving accident in Ft. Lauderdale FL. I just saw on the news that they gave him 1-year probation and a $500 fine.
I'm not proud to say that I got busted on a DUI back in September 2008.
Nobody got hurt, there was no accident. I got pulled over for speeding, and failed the field sobriety tests, then refused a breathalyzer. I got thrown in jail for 12 hours. I got 1-year probation, license revoked, $4,000 in fines, mandatory counseling (which you pay another few grand for), victim impact school (couple hundred bucks), car impounded ($190), and community service (which I bought out for $500).
This is another example of how celebrities can get away with murder ... literally.

Kev.....brother.... I have been there, got the T-Shirt.

It is bad. You know it, I know it and so does everyone else.

The problem lies in one thing. Are you a Celebrity?

Now whilst I think you are Kevin, I guess the general population have a different opinion.

This has wider implications though. You were 'weighed off' for something that you did and you are a 'pleb' like all of us here. However, it seems Hollywood has a different view on this.
I have long been a believer that any fine given in court should be a percentage of your annual wage. Call me a Socialist, but that way the effect is felt across the board... eqaully.
10% of $1,000,000 is the same as 10% of $10,000. That is fair!
Make fines a % and NOT a set ammount.

Yes, it is amazing how celebrities can get away with this stuff...BUT...do not forget the politicians!....I think they fall into an entirely special category of folks who are beyond the law!....

Interesting pstlpkr. Stalin was definately a moral criminal if not a legal criminal. The second guy I don't know.
Here's one for you... Can you name the tobacco Stalin is smoking?

Indeed, the common man gets reamed out for a DUI. The celeb gets the usual wrist slapping, if that. Just so frustrating. All you have to do is look at Strawberry, Gooden, et al. to see where the priorities are.

someone mentioned politicians, how many of them have got caught not paying taxs for years, and they get off with a small fine and keep there job. I had IRS hounding me to the ends of the earth for a $25.00 mistake. I don't think thats what the founding fathers had in mind.

From what I read awhile back, the lady he killed was also driving drunk as well with no seltbelt on, doesnt make it right, but she is somewhat partial to blame for her own death. I guess the whole case pended on some evidence proving he ran a red light, to prove if he were at fault or not. Between an awful judge , incompetent cops, an expensive defense team vs probably an underpaid inexperienced ADA. I guess anyone can get off I if you they the millions to pay on a good attorney.

I'm a Yankee fan, Jim always seemed a bit too high of himself. He was a little too cocky, some might say he was an ass****. The piece of crap actually had the balls to show up to the new stadium after this incident, the Yankee front office had security make sure he off the premises and Jim set up shop selling 5 dollar autographs to raise money for his legal team, dude has no shame.
