I worked in the building that Christie’s uses and they definitely had very high end clientele. And every building owner I’ve ever worked for or major investor I’ve ever talked to buys art as a way to bury and hide there money tax free and when they need a few mil to buy properties or invest in it they just liquidate a few pieces.
I guess they pay taxes once on purchase and a on sale account for the taxes in the pricing and they feel the art will appreciate in value so it’s like a bond of sorts.

Also, if someone might love latakia, but yet want a blend that doesn't overwhelm their taste buds, Laurel Heights has just a dusting of latakia. I get just a hint of leather every now and then, and I love it.
In my own homegrown twists, I will just dust some powdered latakia on a leaf then add it to the twist to give me just that delicate hint of latakia. Then, sometimes I want a good chewy latakia blends. Variety is the spice...

In most US cities, when building a public building over (some random number) square feet, are required to budget in a percentage of the building costs for public art. It has little to do with taxes, and more to do with quality of life in large industrial buildings, like airports and such. And, I know some artists specialize in making art for these types of architecture. I have a friend who does large ceramic wall pieces 100's of yards large for these types of places, and she is constantly flying all over the world to install them. But, even with high costs for these pieces, the cost of making and installing them make it a poor business model, but she enjoys doing this, plus the travel.

I don’t mean what’s on display I mean what’s in there vaults and private storage and there private residences. Part of my job is maintaining the HVAC in those spaces and protecting them from leak / flood damage.

It seems to me that a great deal of what is "almost universally held in higher regard" is based entirely on hype. People should smoke what they like and not worry about what others think. Though for the record while I do love my cheaper stuff I am known to indulge in the higher end stuff too. However, I understand that a great deal of why it is considered higher end is because it has been hyped. One must separate out the hype from the subjective experience, which with pipe smoking is pretty much everything.

It looks like we are going to have to agree to disagree on whether certain things being held in higher regard is due primarily to hype. It seems pretty clear I'm not going to convince anyone otherwise.

I'm with you on everything else there. Hope you have a great weekend and time to enjoy a few pipes!

Been that way for me for years now. If a blend has more than a minute amount of latakia in it now, that's all I taste.
The very same with me, back then when I smoked pipes on and off latakia mixtures were the only I smoked,Dunhill Standard mixture being my very favorite, but today if and when I'm reading on the tin /pouch description that blend contains latakia I'd choose to leave it at that

Dali’s work always looked more like a mushroom trip than sex too me but now that ya mention it, the older I get the more I feel like a limp clock.

Any here like the work of Alex Grey? Think he’s the best artist that ever lived, past or present.

This is a painting of the feller who created LSD. The original painting was signed by him.

Obviously his art is highly influenced by mind altering substances.

It's one thing to say that one hates the Beetles. I mean come on... Nickelback has lasted longer that that bunch of mama's boys.
But, it is crossing the line to assume why someone else likes them. To say that you only like the Beetles because of hype is just wrong, and it doesn't even require acknowledging the wrong, because it is so blatantly obvious what is going on when one says things like this.

Yeah, but it's hardly about Latakia for a good part of the seven pages.
So like, where are the lines between latakia and art to be drawn? I mean, we could try to separate these topics, but then when you draw one line, more just beg to be drawn, then you are just left with a line drawing, and I told you that they were one and the same things... right?

This is news to me! I guess all artists are a bit…. weird/crazy. Still need to read the article. Not sure if I’m buying that.

Edit*. Just doing a tiny bit of research it looks as though this is completely nonsense. - still, I’m sure the man is bat shit crazy, still love his art though.
