Magnum Opus is much more complex than Black House. Bigger flavor! To me Black House is just good, solid and reliable without being overly complex. Both are absolutely excellent!

I don't think that it's the Virginia that you don't like. Frog Morton is Virginia based and early Morning Pipe is really a Virginia blend with lots of orientals and a little latakia. Takes a while to figure out what it is in certain blends that disagrees with you. in 13 years the only tobacco I have found that consistently irritates my mouth, throat and nasal passages is burley. Just start trying different latakia blends. Put whatever you don't like up for trade or sale here.

@ohin3- Good call brother, I can say I'm a true Virginia lover,

but some I can push...around while others will not take that crap

and will "slap" you back....MC to note...slow, steady and cool is the

only way to go ;-)

I second Jason on MacBaren HH Vintage Syrian, I also enjoy their Plumcake but it has quite a bit of VA in it and very little Latakia.

The Peter Stokkebyes are good enough and cheap enough to stock up on several ounces for a "go to" type smoke. The sort of thing you might have on hand in a zip loc for the truck/car/boat/bike.

UPDATE
As promised here is what I ordered based on suggestions. I actually have another TAD order ready to send in as I couldn't get everything all at the same time...
tad-2012-2-150x115.jpg

Now I have test smoked all of these but not enough to actually do a review. However I can say that every one of these is excellent and I will be ordering more of them all when required.

There is one that really has my attention though and when I reorder I will likely order double of this one for sure.
McClelland 3 OAKS...This stuff is a real mouthful, love it. I don't puff my pipe usually, I tend to take long slow draws and this tobacco smoked my way provides a real mouthful with no bite.

I think Dunhills My Mixture 965 is a great Balkan that doesn't get a fair shake. I have read on this forum that the new version is much better than the previous rendition, and I am planning on breaking open a tin this weekend. But not to be undone, I like Blue Mountain, Magnum Opus, Plum Pudding, Black House, and Penzance. All have subtle differences, but as Mark Twain pointed out, a man can only set standards for himself. Try them all!

My favorite blend has been Frog Morton for 1 out of the 2 years I have been pipe smoking. Boswell's aromatics are the others I really enjoy. I would recomend you Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe as it has plenty of latakia and considerabley more flavor than Frog Morton does; I find it the perfect morning tobacco or for when you need a kick to get you started. It is not nearly as relaxing as Frog Morton, which is still my #1 for relaxation. EMP has absolutely no bite just like Frog Morton, I am very prone to it myself and even find Boswell's pipe tobacco a bit on the bitey side, even though I know from experiance it really isn't when compared to most aros.
