It's been about 18 months since i enjoyed (or really even tried) a latakia blend with anything but the most sparse of regularity. A couple days ago I had some mysterious latakia blend that I found in a jar, probably from two or three years ago.

I really really enjoyed it, and was glad to feel like I might someday smoke all my old latakia-containing blends again some day.

I realized that whenever I tried a blend with Lat that was aged I really liked it. Tried a newer Latakia blend from a beloved small blender recently that I really really didn't like. I finally figured I like what age does to latakia (some don't), amongst the other varietals.

It'll always be a very seldom occasional smoke for me though. My cellar definitely reflects that.

There was a ten year window in my life where all I smoked were Lat mixtures 1995-2005. On occasion,(once per quarter) I smoke a Latakia mixture now and then, but never frequently anymore .
@samuelgawith01 I tried a packet of McLintock's Syrian Latakia and thought it suited my Redcoat uniform character. I still think Latakia sounds like a cheap car made in Syria before the uprising...

I'm grateful to you for making it known that Lat-burnout is sometimes gotten over. I had never heard that.

I've heard again and again guys saying that they smoked Lat for years and then suddenly it muddied everything else. Usually they then turn to VAs. I always assumed that this was an irrevocable phenomenon.

I'm just now beginning to experience it. After years of smoking mainly Lat-forward blends, the smell of Lat in the tin is now turning me off.

(Interestingly, when I push ahead and smoke it anyway, I find that I enjoy the smoke far more than the tin note.)

With respect to the other thread on "Rotations," perhaps this is a good reason to rotate tobacco genres? If you get to Lat blends just once or twice a week, perhaps burnout is less likely? I have no clue -- just wondering.

In any case, I'm glad to hear that the taste for it can come back. I'll cellar some of it until the day I want it like I used to.
I think rotating genres may be the ticket for me. Usually a big shift, like lat to Lakeland, or Virginia to burley - or cigar

Latakia is just something I keep around to keep my palate honest, maybe 10% or less of my cellar. I couldn't imagine smoking it all the time without getting burned out on it.

I used to love my English blends especially a few from Dunhill and others from GL Pease. I haven't touched a Latakia blend in over a decade as the flavors make me want to gag. I honestly don't miss them as I have plenty pf great blends to take their places.

I sincerly think that the camel dung that the leaves are smoked over is just too much. I mean really how much can one person handle camel dung? Yes that is the rumor in which I try to promote any time I can. Is it true? I have an inside source from a Bedonie tribesman who knows the best dung for smoking. He is the maven of camel dung.

Never had that happen and don't expect it to happen. My experience is that I started with VAs but by and large moved on from them as I started smoking Latakia blends. I've recently been smoking some VAs again for a change of pace.

For some it can take decades, others just a few years, and some, never at all.
