I only just tried it. Perfect moisture from the tin. The first time EVER that fold&stuff produced anything close to useable results for me.

I've only smoked a couple of bowls, so i'm not yet completely acquainted with it, but where above someone said "It's a gentler version of capstan" I'd say "It's a BLANDER version of captain". Great tobacco, it's subtler and more nuanced than Capstan, but its somewhat lacking in punch for my taste. You have to work so hard to pick out the flavours from the softness and the smoothness that it feels like an effort for me.
Then again lately i'm on a Royal Yacht kick for precisely the opposite reason...

I've been happily smoking this stuff for years. I still have a tin - maybe two - of the Murray's version, which was Dunhill Light Flake. I'd agree that, yes, it is similar to Capstan.
It always seemed to me a straight VA would be a rather one-note cigarette-like taste experience,
I would totally disagree. Straight Virginias are often wonderfully subtle and complex. But they are subtle - if you want to be hit over the head with Mad Flavah, they may not be your cuppa.

There is a lot of variability which make it hard to follow any tobacco review completely. And I'm talking aside from the biggest one, personal taste. I started out with DNR, switched to Escudo and couldn't taste a whit of difference. Recently went back to DNR and they're like night and day (DNR smoother, sweeter and much less peppery). Probably has to do with the fact tobacco is a naturally-grown product and is bound to vary some from crop to crop. Plus there's the factor of how long the tins have sat before they get sold and smoked.
I really don't care for spicy/peppery anything, which is why I'm interested in trying a VA without Perique. I would like it to be sweet (naturally, not due to casing), smooth, not get harsh halfway down, and have a pleasant taste and room note (not cigarette-like), and substantial nic content.

Dunhill Flake is a great blend that I normally smoke as a first of the day with coffee. Similar to Fribourg & Treyer Cut Virginia Plug, Brigham Klondike Gold, Wessex Virginia Flake, Capstan Blue Flake. I get some nice sweet caramel notes from the DF. .

I really enjoy Dunhill flake as well. That is a beautiful pipe btw. I have never liked bull dog shapes but may have to give them a second look.

Have you tried Union Square?

Well I just smoked my first bowl of Dunhill Flake, and my only grouse is why the hell I never tried it until now. Perfect moisture right from the tin, as I have come to expect with any Dunhill. And if it improves with age, fine, but if it stays as-is that would be fine too. DF lacks for nothing.
The taste was naturally sweet, absent any noticeable casing flavor. I don't get all the "grassy" "hay" "citrus" crap (then again, I don't get all the bizarre things wine afficionados claim to taste in a beverage made purely from grapes either...like chocolate, strawberries, etc etc). What I get in DF is just sweet, natural tobacco flavor.
The best way I can describe DF is "smooth". I found it pleasurable not to get that spicy, peppery sensation on my tongue which I get with a VaPer. In fact I think my current tin of DNR may be my last. I used about 2/3 of a flake in a small (group 3) pipe, and it was sufficient for about 45 minutes of constant smoking, which for me is about enough. It needed no relights, in fact the so-called false light was all I did. And DF kept its smoothness and taste consistent all the way to about the last 1/8, which I have not found any other blend capable of. And in my excitement to be trying a new blend I probably puffed a bit faster than I should, yet it didn't bite at all, nor did the subtleties of the taste fade. It was a cool, dry, tasty smoke all the way.
I can honestly say if I had to have only one blend, this would be it. In fact, I could see me rubbing out a couple tins into separate jars, adding about 1/3 of a tin of Nightcap to one, and a tablespoon of Lane's BCA to the other. That would give me an English and an Aro I could enjoy as well.

After a couple weeks smoking this flake nonstop, I can honestly it's become my #1 tobacco! I'm stoked beyond measure in finding a tobacco that's cheap and easy to get! I'm done chasing unicorns.

It has been a few months since I smoked my Dunhill Flake. This post reminded me to get back after it. This morning I packed a bowl and remembered how much I love it. The only problem is that it seemed like the never ending smoke. I seriously puffed on it forever and still had half a bowl left before I finally put it down. That is some slow burning tobacco.

Count me in for really admiring that pipe as well. Really has a beautiful, sleek look, and an amazing stem.
