peck, based on those dimensions and the thickness of the walls, that pipe should weigh 51.25 grams. When you get it, weight it and let me know how close I came.
I can't describe it, but the best analogy I have is that when you hold one of his pipes it feels like a fine piece of jewellery.
I can picture you lovingly rubbing your nut sack with your new pipe when you get it in.

You know, I don't know how to explain it. First, Larry's pipe socks are second to none - they are a zippered leather pipe bag and you just feel like you are opening something special. Usually he sends a special polishing cloth for the silver shank treatment. And then there is his inspection card in the pipe bag, which outlines the pipe and any special comments about it. I can't describe it to you but it just feels really good to open that zipper and take that pipe out of the bag. His pipes smoke amazing and I love them, but he also has the best pipes socks in the business, with JT Cooke a close second. In the computer business folks have said that Apple's packaging is second to none - and I agree with that - but in the pipe business Larry's packaging is second to no one as well.
For clarity though, I have never rubbed a pipe on my nut sack - perhaps one day if I buy a large enough pipe to make it meaningful, lol.

That is pretty cool about the packaging, someday I will see if for myself. Larry is definitely on my short list to own one day.
peck, you know any of your group 1 pipes is plenty large enough.

Definately a good looking pipe Peck. Love the birdseye rim, the panels, and the blast.

I mentioned Larry's packaging on this thread. The Quaint came in Friday and I am just getting around to opening it. Thought I would document it with some photos taken on my blackberry.
First, this is the pipe bag Larry uses:

And besides the pipe, the bag contains, a grading and quality control card, a personal note (in this case at least), and a polishing cloth for the silver work.

With respect to the pipe itself, the stem and silver area are wrapped to protect the pipe:

Was just smoking a bowl of BCDF in this pipe, and I started wondering: Where does the name Quaint come from? Is it a shape? I found one online by Dunhill, but I didn't notice much in the way of similarity to this one.

I haven't seen any mention of the term Quaint earlier than Dunhill's from the 1920's. From practice, the term is applied to any one of a kind handmade panel pipe with some unusual, hopefully charming, design element. Often there is an interplay of carved or rough surfaced panels against smooth ones, suggesting a touch of the rustic. Hence, quaint.

Beautiful pipe, just a tad bit out there, but in the nicest sort of way. Love it.
