I contacted my senators and Congressmen over this about a week ago. One of my senators have already contacted me back and told me he intended to oppose this and that there were other bills out pertaining to tobacco as well.

Thats a good point LOTPR, but he only cares because he's afraid it will lead to.... losing his job.

Thats why we need $$$ and organization (and lawyers). Put your name on this bill, and we have a group with the time, the money, the resources (and the lawyers) to find the pics of you and your hooker leaving a hotel room. Not only that, but the ad budget to make sure every one of your constituents finds out what a sleazeball you actually are.

Sen. Thomas Harkin (D-IA) isn't scared . All of us shaking a fist and cussing at the computer, is there anybody here who's in his district to cast even one vote against Tommy Boy ??

I'm telling you if they dont get this passed, next time it will be "Here we go again x 3".

Get the industry involved, set up a fund, donate $1 per tin at smokingpipes.com.

I'd rather pay $2 a tin to fund an advocacy group that fights this crap, than the $6 tax they're going to pass if we dont try to fight it.

No, not yet ! I'm just thinking out loud, trying to do something other than sitting here bitching to my wife about the constitution.

I'm just saying, theres more we could do than just writing (mostly ignored) letters to congress.

If we all got together, ALL of the retailers, the pipemakers, pipe tobacco producers, pipesmokers, cigar smokers, not just this forum but spread it to every smoking forum and actually put together a defense fund against BS like this is.

I'm just saying, I might not have what it takes to put all that together, but I'd do all I can to support people who could.

My Senators will also be contacted on this. I think I have a good chance of getting the support of Roy Blunt but Claire McCaskill is a hard party line Democrat and will undoubtably support it. If it makes it to the House, I think I have a good chance with my new rep, Vicky Hartzler. I'm on a first name basis with one of her aids and got her to co-sponsor a bill involving motorcycles that I supported. One of the problems we have in this country is that 99.9% of the people bitch and moan but NEVER CONTACT THEIR REPS AND SENATORS! I told my sister about contacting Vicky Hartzler and she acted like I had gotten an audience with the Pope. THESE PEOPLE WORK FOR US, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! How can they know what we think if we never contact them?

I see that the "boy mayor" of Anchorage is a co-sponsor. Mark Begich has become such a huge disappointment to the Great State of Alaska

remember when you used to be able to buy winchester white box 9mm for like 10 bucks a box and then obama was about to be elected, and fear mongers spread panic that ammo would be outlawed, or some such bullcrap, and then prices went through the roof because hording was the order of the day and what people feared never materialized but it didn't matter because the herd mentality created something just as bad (or worse) anyway? i just hope this doesn't go down that same road.
just curious, is this the sort of tax law that's been proposed every year for a decade and always gets shot down?
by the way, the shameless online posts from smug, self-centered jerks who bragged about how they got in line at wallyworld at 4am and cleaned out the last 5000 rounds of ammo in the store to the chagrin of everyone in line behind them were entertaining enough to almost make it all worthwhile.

I apologise mod.....BUT THIS MAKES ME DO ANGRY!

WE NEED TO TURN THE RASCALS OUT!
I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR AN INCUMBANT.
I would be more then happy to give a buck or two per tin to any group that would fight this...The government is out of control and we are loosing a bit more of our freedom every year'
If you put a frog in a pot of cool water and gradually increase the heat you end up with a cooked frog that never complained.

I posted my thoughts on this just now. If they want to tax the "Bad Habit" then they should tax all of the bad habits equally instead of governmental control and the monopolistic organizations "tea tax".
