I have plenty of pipes with medium sized bowls. I often enjoy lighting up and sitting by a fire or reading a book and would enjoy a much longer smoke….say an hour and 15 minutes or more. I have trouble locating a decent pipe with a large bowl for a reasonable price. Perhaps my searches are bad. If you have any suggestions of where to look or good search words to use I would appreciate it. Also if you have any thoughts about pipes with large chambers/bowls I would appreciate that as well.
Thanks in advance.
I recommend the Kalmasch for large bowls and comfortable long smokes. They are readily available on ebay for great prices, and every one I've owned smokes fantastic. Restoration can be tricky, but generally isn't too difficult. The history angle is really fun with these - I haven't found that the date-hallmarked ones are much different in price from any others. I have an 1827 London-hallmarked one that I love.
For new pipes, "reasonable price" has a different value for each of us. If I wanted a large bowl pipe that smoked great, I'd go straight to BST (Todd Bannard). For factory pipes, Petersons are less expensive and their pub pipe is pretty big. You could also go for a large bowl meerschaum.
