I picked up an ounce yesterday to try. I was expecting a syrupy sticky mixture but was surprised to find that it wasn't that bad. It does smell like Luden's cough drops though. It burned well and I didn't have a lot of trouble out of it. It did leave a tiny bit of a ghost in my pipe though. The first puff of my next bowl with a different mixture was definitely cherry, but then it faded quickly, at least for my palate. Was not detectable a minute or so later. I think I might go back and get another couple ounces.

I enjoy this one every so often. I dedicated a cob to it for a while. It smokes better than expected with some nice flavors if smoked slowly

How is it compared to Cult Blood Red Moon?
Folks seem to react very differently to cherry blends, but I’ll give it a shot.

I like them both, quite a bit. LVC is straight up cherry and tends to lean towards sweet; I get more tart cherry chocolate from CBRM. LVC is strongly informed by the cherry and tastes a little more candy-like and it carries through the bowl. The cherry in CBRM is considerably lighter, less candy-like, and gives way to a woodier taste by the end. Both will ghost your pipe. I don’t mind a little ghosting (I ghost my straight pots deliberately just for fun), but if ghosting bothers you, careful which pipes your smoke these with, particularly LVC.

Both are best when sipped slowly.

CBMR makes me think of the flavor of a cherry cordial, but this is the only cherry tobacco I have ever had.

I've heard the Lane Very Cherry is the bulk version of Captain black cherry. I've tried both and that could very well be true. For me the Lane TK6 was fairly close to CBRM.

For a basic bulk cherry I really like the Smokers Pride Cherry. For about $20 a 12oz bag it's a very good cherry blend I smoke a fair amount.

I also really like Gawith and hoggart American Black Cherry for a good cherry blend that has a bit of strength in the base tobaccos.

For my part, I reacted very very poorly to something in Lanes Very Cherry : it instantly gave me blisters. I have to assume I’m allergic to whatever they use.
I have the same reaction to SuperValue Cherry Cavendish but not Captain Black Cherry or Blood Red Moon.
It’s a “fun” game of trial and error.

I don’t think Lanes and Captain Black are the same. One makes me take two days off from my pipe and the other doesn’t
