So. Cal.
A minor tongue burn fm your tobacco being too wet will leave no pain, but taste will will be gone/ diminished IMHO.

There is a weird thing that happens if you smoke the same blend twice in a row (or more). Each time you smoke the same blend, you taste it less each time. This is why I am always switching between blends. I also start my day with an aromatic, and then smoke Virginias, and then VaPers, and then maybe a burley or two, and then if I am going to smoke latakia or Dark Fired, I do it just before my last bowl of a strong twist. This way I am moving from less taxing on the tongue blends to more flavor throughout the day. This, and then drinking water and coffee, and maybe some sliced fresh fruit between smokes to refresh my tongue. And, keeping a clean pipe is key. +1 to Woods.

Works for me, YMMV

ALL great ideas above. I tried to come up with some additional tips and tricks, but everything is pretty well covered. Maybe, try a Meerschaum pipe?

I tried Decatur Briar Fresh from P&C. Stuff really works and is easy to use. Also, I have noticed that my lat blends have not been as good once the humidity kicked in. I guess those VaPers in the summer folks are on to something after all. The only time I can get a good tasting lat smoke these days is in the early morning before the heat and humidity kick in. Otherwise it's VaPers or Burley.

Yeh, I live in Alabama, where to walk outside in the summer for merely a few minutes is to be soaked in sweat, sweat that doesn't evaporate... ever. So, smoking a latakia in the heat is overwhelming. I prefer it when the cold adds a certain aesthetic quality to the smoke all of its own. VaPers and Virginias keep my mouth refreshed with the slight acidity, like drinking a Mountain Dew or lemonaid throughout the sun stroked day.

Sometimes I have had a day or two where I couldn't taste my tobaccos. Once or twice it turned out to be the first signs of a cold. The other times I don't know. Maybe stress.

Switch it up categorically - make a real change. Every time I start to get bored I switch categories - except Latakia seems to be a permanent burn out for me.

Like a VaPer to a dark fired - or a Va to a burley - or a VaPerBur to a Lakeland - seems like sometimes I go back to find something I liked before is better than I remembered.

and then back again of course

Some Blatter tobaccos lose their flavor after awhile, they become bland, it happened to me with Blatter Reserve. Here in Montreal, I switched to Va/Pers, Latakia mixtures and some Dark Kentucky cigars for the fall. Try some Va/Burs also it could be a change of season thing. If nothing works and it happened quite suddenly, it would be a good idea to pass some tests, maybe a vitamin deficit. Hope this helps.

Doesn't sound like the pipe needs a cleaning. No sour taste, just no taste at all.
I smoke mainly Latakia blends. I ran into a phenomenon last fall. I've been smoking pipe about 2.5 years. Last fall all my pipes, about 15, tasted dead. I was starting to venture into Va/Per and Va blends. Since they started tasting blah, I figured it was the weather. I had heard Va/Per a Va blends change in cooler weather, I'm in Wisconsin, So I figured that was it. So I went back to my Lat blends. Then one evening, on my lunt to the bar, I lit my pipe, with 965, nothing. I went back in, grabbed another pipe, it had flavor. I went on my way. The next day I gave the dead pipe a deep clean, and alcohol soak, and low and behold I could taste tobacco again. I deep cleaned all my pipes, and I could taste Va/Per and Va blends again. I didn't have any sour taste, just bland.

A few years ago, i was using obsidian oil on my stems and not being careful to wipe it off well. As soon as any of it got on my tongue, killed all the flavor. It is a long shot but, just thought i would mention it.

I sometimes roll up a little pipe tobacco in paper , just to get a quick taste of something I created
One way to tell if it’s you or the pipe

It may be like athletes go in and out of "the zone." I've had stretches of days or a week when nothing stayed lit, nothing tasted good when it did, and changing pipes and blends didn't seem to help. And then I'd take a day or three off, and dig out a different tin of something new to try, and usually the magic returns.
