A buddy of mine recommended I give the Peretti Thanksgiving Day blend a try. Anyone ever tried it? Thoughts?

It has been a long time. It's Burley, no topping.

I am not a Burley guy. I was not induced to

buy it again. I really liked the idea

of it though. Nothing bad, just too much Burley

for me.

If you enjoy good Burley blends, this

Would be a nice choice.

I don't usually smoke a ton of burley either, but it's a good change of pace! The 4oz brick always seems too much to get through, but I usually smoke through 1/2 or 3/4 of it in the week preceding and following Thanksgiving.

I didn't smoke burley early on, and thus to my tastes VA is how I consider tobacco tastes. Although burley is very flavorful, to me it tastes odd. Of course Aged Burley Flake is the exception.

As noted in my post above, I ordered a package of Thanksgiving Day blend on Friday October 31, 2014, and it was delivered via UPS service this morning. That's snappy service!
I believe that I'll save this to enjoy on the actual Thanksgiving Day...at least I'll try...it DOES smell awfully good!

Finally got around to trying this blend today. My recent foray into trying different burley blends is only a few months old and this one is a winner. Definitely a quality leaf with a good nutty flavor and a sweet almost (floral?) sweetness.
A bit pricey with shipping added, but the 4 oz. block will last me a while. If you like burley, try it.

The shipping on their website is quoted as UPS. And yes, it's outrageous. Call them to get the more reasonable USPS rate. Why they default to UPS on-line is beyond me. 4oz is $16 to ship on-line. They were great on the phone, however, and are apparently in the process of updating the shipping options on their website.

I picked some up last week when I visited the store. I can't speak to the shipping costs they charge, but the four gallons of gas and the subway ride there and back probably comes to about the $16 people are quoting for shipping costs, so I didn't dodge the bullet, either.
According to the sales associate, Thanksgiving Day is a blend of six different tobaccos (mainly Burleys and Virginias I am guessing), with a "rum and fruit juices" topping/casing. It comes in a 4oz "crumble cake" that breaks apart very easily. I have smoked a few bowls of it, twice in a small bowl and once in a large bowl, and it is very good in a small bowl but is outstanding in a large bowl. It didn't seem too moist so I didn't dry it out before smoking it. It burned very cool in the large bowl, and a little hotter in the smaller bowl; probably a function of the pipe and not the tobacco. Each experience provided a moderately rich smoke; I wouldn't call it creamy, but it was fairly thick and each time it required no re-lights and burned to a fine white ash with no remaining dottle.
I wish I could give a "Jim Inks" quality review, but my palate is not that sophisticated. I can tell the difference between Burley, Virginia, Perique, Latakia, etc. but when you start mixing them together I can get easily confused. I did detect a very faint floral flavor on the initial light and for perhaps the first quarter of the bowl, but then it was gone thereafter. I personally could not make out a "Rum" flavor, but there was definitely a very mild fruit sweetness. I can't make out which fruit (i.e. It wasn't strawberry or pineapple, or cherry). But it was very mild and made it a nice change of pace as I typically don't smoke aromatics. I can tell that the quality of the ingredient tobaccos is very high, and this is quickly becoming one of my most enjoyable smokes this season. I plan on getting this every year from now on as long as it is offered. This is the perfect season for this blend, in the same way we drink eggnog or eat pumpkin pie at certain times of the year and not in other times.
When I was at the store everyone there (including the customers) was very pleasant and helpful. I am from the greater Boston area, so maybe I am immune to some of the personality issues that people are describing, but I have only great things to say about Peretti's customer service.
My opinions only!

I find myself in the same camp as you-my talent for analyzing flavors is poor at best.
Although I don't know the tobacco, you did an outstanding job of describing it.
thanks
