Hi Everyone!
I have never had any experience with L.J. Peretti, and while reviews and discussions I’ve seen on here have proved helpful, I’m wondering what people’s experience has been with this blender in terms of value compared to other brand name blenders (such as G.L Pease, Mac Baren, etc.). For those of you who have smoked a lot from them, would you say they are equal to or exceed expectations? I’m shopping internationally and I have to call in the order for some reason, so just wondering before I go through the hassle and expense. I’m looking at their English and some of their Burleys for context, but any experience with anything they’ve made would be great. Thanks!

Phenomenal customer service reminiscent of days long past.
Delicious, unique tobacco blends.
What else is there?

I can’t comment on their English blends because I only smoke 150th Anniversary, #8 Slices, and London Flake which are all beautiful blends.

Do it.
If you love pipe smoking, you’ll love LJ Peretti.

Their burley blends are amazing, definitely a good value. I've smoked maybe 6 different blends from both the aromatic and non-aromatic burley samplers and I haven't disliked a single one. Definitely on par or better with the name brands.

Can't speak to their English mixtures though. Their Blend 52 might be my most favorite burley of theirs that I have had so far. Their burley tends to skew towards the floral/tea-like and buttery-nut side of things rather than the cocoa/chocolaty side, and I don't mean floral like Ennerdale or added floral essence. So bear that in mind. Closest comparison I can think of with their burley is C&D's Eight State Burley, otherwise it's hard to compare them to anything else, unique in a good way.

I lived in Boston back in the '90s and used to go there once a week as a cigar smoker. I have a handful of trips to Boston planned in the next two months and will be sure to get there for the first time as a pipe smoker.

I got a plug of the Thanksgiving release which was lovely as were the B-94, Belmont and No. 432. They are in my rotation and I'd smoke any of them exclusively if I had to.

^^^^ This.
I've been chasing down Virginia/perique blends and for my palate Peretti's Park Square kicks Escudo and De Luxe Navy Rolls to the curb. Park Square is the smoothest, coolest Virginia/perique that I've come across. No. 8 Slices is on my list to try.

To the original post, others have mentioned English blends Royal and Tashkent. I will add Cambridge Flake to the list. The orientals in the blend are a bit milder than the aforementioned blends. Peretti can also create custom blends, if so desired.

This reminds me that I have a large can of Royal I completely forgot about that's 10 years old. It might still be OK as it's still in the bag, but I'll have to give it a looksee.
In any event, I quite liked Royal as well as Tashkent, which is a very stout Balkan. I also used to enjoy Omega quite a bit. D-7485 was a favorite of Ramsay MacDonald.

I can't speak to their Va/Per flakes, as they used to use McClelland components, and McClelland has been gone these past 7 years.

Check out Peretti’s Royal and Omega. They are mind blowing. The Orientals in them are better than anything else except some of the vintage blends I have. I’m a huge GL Pease and Mac Baren fan, but they are only exceptionally good when aged. The Peretti English blends are good fresh and I can’t wait to have them age. Do yourself a favor and order some. It’s the same price as Gl Pease.

That’s an amazing description thank you. I think it is definitely worth a try then.

This is all super helpful, thank you all very much. I’ve been wanting to try them for awhile now, but have been disappointed in the past with some local blenders I’ve tried. Will definitely be placing an order then!

Peretti’s “Tashkent” is in heavy rotation for me. Next to Boswell’s “Northwoods,” both are exceptional English blends

I love several of their blends as well. As someone mentioned before, I would try their non aromatic burley sampler and aromatic burley sampler. I dont even care for aromatics but the aromatic burley sampler is done in such a way that you still taste the tobacco.
