Hello Everyone.

I'm preparing for the rather arduous and time-consuming task of ordering tobacco and having it shipped internationally to me. I have been looking at some of the blends featuring the Kohlhase and Kopp name (blend 33, 44, 88, Leonardo da Vinci, etc.). I know that K&K owns a lot of other blends, I'm referring to blends that specifically have their name on the tin. Does anyone have any recommendations or is anyone familiar with this brand? I have never tried it but the tin note descriptions look quite nice. I'm open to trying any type of blends, aromatics and English alike, but it seems they feature predominantly aromatic blends from what I saw. Thank you!

I have bought tins of their Winter Time blends every year and have never been disappointed. I was lucky to get a tin of their Casino Royale last year and it is a good smoking blend also.

I know it doesn't have Kohlhase & Kopp on the tin, but you should also take a look at the Meistermischung Mixtures if you find any of them. That is a blend name owned by K&K and everything I've bought has been in plain, brass colored tins.

Edit: I don't know if they are owned by K&K, but most of the aromatic Rattray's blends are produced by K&K and are excellent - Exotic Passion, Caribbean Dream, Bagpiper's Dream, Tower Bridge and all the Rattray's seasonal blends like Winter Edition, Summer Edition, etc.

Oh yes thanks I was thinking of those as well, those are the ones that have the numbers on the tins (like 88, 33. etc.). Do you recommend any one over the other? I was thinking of getting all of them but there are about 7 different ones and I tend to not like to order too much at once. Thanks!

Meistermischung 88 and 99 are great. 88 is a fantastic long slice of heaven. 99 is a wonderful English. I ordered 2 of each and wish I had 8 of each.

Something else to consider. They have capstan at $8 each and SaltyDog for the same. Also...this is a suggestion from others and it worked for me. Keep the order under $500 and package under 5lbs. Do not include cigars or cigarettes. They stick the bill and contents right on the box for inspection. Multiple copies. Just a heads up.

I have Meistermischung Nr. 11 (Honey, Rum, Plum) Nr. 22 (Cherry) and Nr. 66 (tropical fruit). They are all good. I think the Nr. 22 is one of the better Cherry blends I have had and I personally don't get the medicinal taste that is prevalent in most cherry blends.

I've had the Nr. 88 and I found it to taste and smoke the same as Reiner Golden Flake I had a year or two before the pandemic. Reiner is one of the name brands listed on the K&K website.

If I had to guess, the Meistermischung blends are the bases for similar blends sold under different brand names.

I too suspect that 88 is the same as Reiner...only from looks though. Ive never had Reiner. Odd enough...Reiner can be hard to get here in currently and I suspect even with shipping its cheaper to buy over seas...lol

I picked up a tin of Reiner's at the annual Pipe Night that we used to have every spring in New Orleans. I'm not someone who reaches for a straight virginia blend very often but I went through that tin in less than three months.

It's a shame that K&K feel compelled to ladle on the propylene glycol.
Ruins everything for me, and can't taste anything for 2 days afterwards.
Some are sensitive to it, some aren't.
To me it tastes like honey and lemon lozenges - revolting.
About time it was banned IMO.

Those look amazing! I will try both! That's good advice also about ordering, I will keep that I mind! Thanks!
The Meistermischung 88 is an excellent blend, and it is an aromatic with a significant Geranium topping. I love the stuff, but you should be aware of the Geranium, as nobody ever seems fit to mention it. Not everyone loves Geranium.
It you have any contacts in Munich, get yourself some George Huber Virginia Golden Flake, which has a mild Honeydew topping over a wonderful base of Virginias. It's only sold in Munich.

It's been about three or four years since I've had the 88. I just don't remember the Geranium topping.

When I got my tins it was an unexpected surprise. Not one of the people extolling this blend mentioned it. Fortunately, I like geranium from time to time.
Man I have to revisit mine. I know there was a slight topping but I didnt peg it as geranium...which is a me thing...my nose isnt that great. I will say though that it was not strong at all. I guess its a luck of the draw situation.

Here's a direct link: Pfeifentabak Virginia Golden Flake - https://www.pfeifen-huber.de/pfeifentabak-golden-flake-vormals-virginia-honeydew-flake.html

Their website is only in German. Let me know if you need a translator ?

That may be why I went through the tin so fast.

Esterval's carries Meistermischung and the ship to the U.S. I haven't had a problem since they switched to DHL express.

I don't remember what blends of theirs I've tried. It's been a while. But I remember think it's quality and very German. Taste but with a sweet tooth. Basically if what you see sounds good it probably will be.
