Up till now I've been using a rather large knife for cutting my plugs. It a traditional Uzbek knife called Pchuk.

But lately I've been thinking about getting a slip-joint, something traditional. Of cause Case comes to mind, but I'm not a fan of their knives. Well, I'm not a fan of Tru-sharp, to be exact. So I'm thinking Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Cotton Sampler. Nice wide blade, ATS-34. Almost 4" blade.

I have a couple knives that I use to cut my plugs, but a #8 Opinel Carbon blade is what I use for the most part and it can be kept razor sharp and it is a smashing deal when looking at the price/functionality ratio.

The best slipjoints made in the US right now are by Great Eastern Cutlery.

Thehave a couple of diffent lines and price points but all are good.
Opinels are totally legit too.
An in between option is the old standby Buck.

A 110 is big but solid, and a 112 is a smaller option. There are a couple dealers with cool scale blade options... Copper and Clad and SKblades.

Buck just came out with a new lightweight version of the 110 that i got for around $25 and word is that the 112 lightweight will be out this summer.

The 110 lightweight is an amazing value, I love that knife.

Anything with a good carbon blade, and Opinel is so reasonably priced.

Any full flat grind knife will work well. A thin blade will will help too. A lot of decent kitchen knives fit the bill. Opinels do as well and they are cheap enough to dedicate one or two and have them where you need them. Modifiable too.
